I love how I posted on here not too long ago, and Ive revamped my list since…
Just for Kicks…

In order of selectivity (I’m not sure I could order based on preference)
West Point
Annapolis
Claremont McKenna
Williams
Carnegie Mellon
Grinnell
Colorado College
U of Rochester
Dickinson
Kalamazoo
SUNY Geneseo

^ I’m in the same boat as the poster above. My list has changed considerably, especially after I found out that I’ll be moving from Michigan to California for my senior year.

Reaches: Harvard, Columbia, Princeton
Matches: UC Berkeley, UCLA (I’ll be applying from California)
Safety: U of Toronto

Reach:
UVA
Akron
UMD

Safety:
Harvard
UPENN

Yay for not-as-smart kids on CC…
Kind of in order of selectivity

Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
Boston College
Macaulay Honors College
NYU
Northeastern
Boston U
SUNY Stonybrook
Fordham
Saint John’s University

Not in any particular order, these schools just seem like good fits for me…
I would rank these by the reach/match/safety way but I will refrain because it seems as though I will do it completely wrong and get attacked.
Wash U in St Louis
Rice
Tulane
Rhodes
Hendrix
Emory
Amherst
Guilford
Goucher
Oberlin

I keep trying to narrow my list down and instead keep adding more schools…sigh. My list is all over the place, not to mention it’s like 1 safety, 2 matches, and 12+ reaches. It’s like a monstrous tumor that keeps expanding.
Amherst, Brown, Dartmouth, Davidson, Duke, Kenyon, Middlebury, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pomona, Rice, Tulane, UT Austin, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, & Wash U. Problem is, there’s stuff about all of them that I like!

Take it from a senior who has finished applications and is reflecting back on the application process…

Unless you are sure that you will need to shop for the best financial aid package, there really isn’t any reason for you to apply to more than 6 or 7 colleges. I can understand where the “If I apply to half a dozen hyperselective colleges, I’m more likely to get into one of them!” argument comes from, but in reality, I think you should genuinely feel like you could be happy at every school on your list, not just feel like you could be satisfied at every school on your list (for example, if you would be satisfied with going to an Ivy because of the reputation, even if you wouldn’t be happy there otherwise). Plus, only applying to 6 or 7 colleges will SIGNIFICANTLY help you write better essays – I can guarantee this from personal experience. EDIT - I applied to 10 colleges, but in retrospect, I would have been much better suited to apply to five or six.

And on a final note, if you have the economic means to do so, APPLY ED. If you don’t, APPLY EA to every school on your list that offers it and at which you would feel moderately confident about your chances.

junior in arizona
3.3 UW/3.8 W
1870 SAT/28 ACT
7 AP’s + 6 honors (by graduation)
jewish, hispanic, ~1600 hrs community service, sports, leadership, honors society, etc.

anyways, here’s my list…i know it seems all over the place but i have my reasons lol

Reaches:
-University of Miami
-University of Texas-Austin
-Pepperdine University

Matches:
-San Diego State University
-University of Tennessee-Knoxville
-Chapman University

Safeties:
-University of Arizona (in-state)
-Sacramento State
-University of Alabama

I used to have a really long list of schools but college visits narrowed it down.

My List (in order of preference):
-East Carolina University = safety
-University of South Carolina = match
-Saint Joseph’s University = high match
-Elon University = reach
-Rutgers University = high match/slight safety (I’m in-state)

Penn
Brown
Duke
Dartmouth
Pomona
Harvard

Rice
Wash U
Tufts
Boston College

UW
Case

Thoughts?

SAT - 2070
Rank - Top 2% with most rigorous schedule possible
Officer of a couple clubs and I’ve done well in some research competitions

My list is at the VERY early stages and only includes schools I’ve visited (with some SUNYs)
Reaches - Tufts (probably favorite :D), MIT, Harvard, Brown
Matches - SUNY Binghamton (normally a safety but with the economy now-a-days I don’t really know)
Safeties - BU, SUNY Stony Brook (although theres a chance I won’t with the horrible budget cuts! how could they close Southampton? gosh get rid of something other than an ENTIRE campus)

“Not too concerned about money - parents earn around 40 grand a year, so if I get into a LAC, I’ll get pretty good grant aid.”

Haven’t heard that before!

^it’s true though :p

Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury,Colby, Haverford, all guarantee need met with no loans, no gap? Really? Well, I wouldn’t know!

Amherst, Bowdoin, Yale, Dartmouth, etc. offer all need met with no loans and no gap. There is a student work part, but around $1800. Williams has minimum loans (like 2000-3000). So if I can get in, I don’t think money will be too big of an issue.

Reaches:not really any, most of my reaches turned into matches after I did well on SATs and added ECs. Basically all the schools I looked at here cost too much for my family and fin aid to cover.

Matches: Rice (applying ED)
Tufts(But would need fin aid, seems unlikely to happen, but applying anyway)
Vanderbilt( would need aid, probably merit, fairly unlikely to go it)
USC(would probably get in, and about a 50/50 shot at getting enough merit)

Safetys:
GWU (would probably get enough aid to go)
Lafayette(Same as GWU, but I like the school less)
UTexas(would need some aid, not sure if I could get it)
UMiami(Would probably get enough aid to go)
Clemson(Financial safety, could go regardless of aid, will probably get a ton of it though)

Are Tufts and Rice really matches for anyone? Heck, Tufts rejects plenty of people with great ECs and 2300+. I think they would be reaches.

my list right now, i havent divided them to reaches/match/safety yet but i am a pretty top applicant and im hispanic

UW honors, stanford, santa clara, pepperdine, USC, claremount, pomona, scripps, rice, emory, vanderbilt, u of miami, northwestern, washington u, UBC, mcgill, colgate, brown, columbia, yale, duke, u michigan and then i have a couple more that im deciding between

3.96 uw, 4.75 w
13ap/3 college in high school/ 7 honors

amazing EC’s
30 ACT (taken december sophomore year no prep) taking again in june
ap scholar with honors
plus more

Not really. Tufts isn’t THAT super-reach. Regular old over-achievers can get in.
