Juniors: When are you taking the SAT?

So, any juniors taking the SAT next month? Thoughts?

I'm in my senior year right now, but I took the SAT for the first time in October in my Junior year. So, yeah, next month. good luck.

How many times did you end up taking it?

um...six. but that's the norm where I live.
most people take it only 3 times. more than three is pushing it. take it 3 times.

I'm shooting for 1400 (on the 1600 point scale) or 2150 (new version). If I get above those scores, and feel good about the way I did, I probably won't take it again.

As long as you think that you can get higher, there is no harm in taking the test again.

There is harm in taking the test again. It is boring, it takes 4 hours, and it costs a lot. Do what you want to do. I got pretty much the same score on my first try as I did on my second try. Even my composite score using the best of both tests only went up 20 points. I'm not going to take it again because I did my best and that's the highest score that I'm going to come up with every time, I take it.

Also, don't take the test in October. Those testing days are more for Seniors. Instead of taking the test soon and often, you should use these few months to study and then take it for the first time in January, February, March etc.. You'll get better results.

I took the SAT I for the first and last time in April of my junior year. I took SAT IIs in November, January, and June of junior year (one each).

Don't take the SAT too many times. Wait until the late spring. You won't regret it. You still have time to retake if you mess up in April: you can retake in June or in the fall. And if you take the SAT I in April/June you still have another test date to take SAT IIs (in May around the time of AP exams, which is perfect b/c AP and SAT II studying can correlate)

I'm taking it in October - I need an early one for summer programs - and possibly again in December. If I'm still not happy with my score, I'll retake in October or so of my senior year.

January .

March.....

I think I'm going for the January session, so maybe I can retake it in the spring if I'm not happy.

April, May and maybe October.

I'm gonna take the January one and i'll see from there.

I took my first test in jan and I wish I had taken it earlier. Jan was a stressful time (midterms and lots of work) and I wish someone had advised me to take it earlier.

im taking it january and if necessary march and again i necessary october next year

I am taking the Sat next month.. Just to get a little practice in!!

I took it in June. It was great because school was over by then.

I'm a senior. I would recommend November then January or January then March. Definitely take it twice (unless if you get a 2400 the first time) just because different sections will be easier on different testing dates. And January tends to be a pretty easy date overall. Don't take it after March (which tends to be more difficult) because you should be preparing for AP's, SAT II's, and finals. If you still need to take it a third time, do it in the fall of senior year. Don't sacrifice your other tests for 2 months' worth of SAT prep. If you couldn't raise your score enough in the few months between your first two testing dates, you won't be able to do so by May/June AND do well on everything else.
