just curious...how many of u rising juniors are getting a new car?! i REALLy want one but dont know if i can convince my parents ahhh

I got a new car when I got my permit sophomore year

My parents "say" I'm getting a new car (yeah right)..but I do actually need the car, because I will be doing an internship program during my last period of school, and I need a way to get to the ite.

i'll get a new car no sooner I get my license.

I'm getting a (used) car when I get my graduated license (it's between the learner's and the "real" license, and it has almost the same privileges as the "real" license), because I'm expected to drive my siblings to school, as well as drive myself to my ECs.

I'm getting the old car because we bought a new one this year - in addition to our minivan. Now that both my sisters are in college, it'll just be and my parents, so I'll get to drive the crappy one that once stopped in the middle of the highway.

I really want one too but my parents and I have agreed that if I get a brand spankin nice car now, I won't be able to drive it around because I can't take it to college. On most campuses, a lot of the times people walk around, and a parking ticket can be expensive. And if I get a car, I don't want to get a nice one and then leave it for my siblings to trash when I go to college . . so I think what we might do is get a pretty average car (either I just get my mom's old subaru and she gets something new or we get something completely different but not really nice, but rather more useful) and all the siblings can use it cuz there are a lot of us lol
so i'll get my license and then drive it senior year and maybe some of junior year and then when I leave my bro will get the car and the cycle continues

i'm not the only one doing this, i have a friend right now who's a senior and she drives her sister's car (honda accord). her sister is a freshman at a college about 3 hours away. And this friend wants to get a specific car (mini cooper) all for herself and her parents said not till sophomore year of college could she do that . . so she's waiting .. and i guess then her other 2 bro's will drive her original sister's car (honda accord). so it kinda sucks for the oldest sister cuz everyone is driving her car but she has no say because she's away at college. another family i know made the mistake of letting the first child get a nice car AND the 2nd child (we're talkin altima for the 1st and AUDI for the 2nd .. its so nice, she let me drive it once :)), so now they have to get a nice car for all 5 children or it wont' be considered 'fair'. tsk tsk.

I got a used car (my dad's) also in my junior year, and continue to use it in my senior year. I hate driving, but it's really convenient because my dad's schedule doesn't really coordinate well with mine.

I am only looking at campuses that have good public transportation systems, or in-state/nearby schools... because of the parking permit, insurance, and the shipping of the car itself- it's really expensive. Include the thousands of dollars of tuition and expenses.. just not going to happen.
I'd look at getting a used car, or a car that's been in the family for a while.. especially if you're only going to use it for the next two years, I don't think it's worth it.

I'll probably be getting a car in December-ish, whenever I get my license. That could be a while because I'm a pretty bad driver. lol. Anyway, it'll be probably an older model jetta, because my dad thinks Jettas are super safe. I don't like to drive very much, but I'm pretty psyched about the car thing because right now I take the bus EVERYWHERE, and Denver doesn't have the best public transportation ever. I'll never ever have money again, because gas and car insurance are SO EXPENSIVE OH MY GOD. but I'll drive, so it's all good :)

My family bought a really ugly used (1999) saturn when my sister got her license a couple years ago. She's off at college now and left the car for me to drive. It's nice because I like having a car to drive and I don't have to worry about wrecking a brand new expensive car. When I go to college, I'll leave the car for my brother who will have a car but by the time he can drive it, it will be like a 8-9 year old ugly saturn.

I got a car last year (my friend's sister's old bmw sports) when i got my learners permit (can only drive with a full liscenced passenger). Now I'm on my restricted (no non liscenced passengers allowed.. but I always take passengers anyway) and I got a new one because I kept on crashing my old car and I kept on getting it fixed and it didn't look good anymore..

My parents bought me a 'safe' car (black beeemer.. very sexy ;)) lol. And it's my sister's, once I go to the states :(

Well, I just moved down here and have to wait a 12 months before I can get my license (NC requirement to have permit at least a year), so no car yet, but I will have one in about a year when I finally get my license. Just about everyone else in my grade has a car, however...

any idea how much the insurance rates goes up if I ( 16 years old ) am added to my brothers ( 30 years old ) car insurance policy? I live in Connecticut... Just need an approximate..

I got a car in the middle of my junior year (I'm a senior now) because my mother went from working three days a week to being employed full-time. It wasn't new; in fact, it was a 6-year old honda with 90,000 miles on it, but it runs just as well as a new car and gets great gas mileage.

I got the old family car. 99 Buick, 120,000 miles.

I'm a senior...getting a car this tuesday . very excited, despite that it's my family's old '96 subaru outback. My mom's getting new car so I get the hand-me-down, but it's all good. I can't wait. Freedom!

wow this is soooo depressing. I'm the only one on this thread who ISN'T getting a car. I just got my license today :) but there is no car in store for me :(. Hopefully my parents will get one eventually, but even if we do I have to share it with my twin, and probably pay for my insurance. And its not like we can't afford one (albeit crappy), its just my dad thinks its better for us to learn how to deal without one (just like cell phones-I don't have one either). Argh!

you sound like this *****y AZN kid in a couple of my classes, oh how I wish to cast magic on him

we have a third car so i just drive that. it's a 1997 volvo 960 in pretty bad shape. drives like a dream, but the seats are all ripped up, the cd player doesnt realy work, and the AC hasn't worked in 3 or 4 years. it does have heating, though, which proves to be much more necessary in michigan.

because the car needs serious work, i've been told that i'll be getting a new (used) car by the end of this year for winter driving. my parents are adamant on getting me another volvo, like a 2000 or 2001 S40, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a Civic hybrid.
