just 5 (of many) reasons I'm transferring out of UVA

@Charliesch does UVA have service based frats? Can you belong to a social frat/sorority and also a Professional organization?

Here’s one co-ed service fraternity. There may be more.

Almost every fraternity and sorority has some type of service component. My son’s fraternity held adoption events on Mad Bowl with shelter dogs and raised money for the local animal shelter.

The Greek system at UVA has changed over the years. As our student went through his decision process and looked closer at what opportunities there would be for him, was pleasantly surprised to see diversity is an integrated part of life at the U. There are fraternities for preppies and jocks and so on but there are also houses where non traditional, non-Preppy, band geeks, LGBTQ, faith focused, service focused, jewish, academes and of course, traditionally black students come together. The school is so large that there really are places for everyone who is willing to explore and reach out. The dean of students is even openly gay. Times have changed in the world and at the U. @mom23travelers described it well. You do need to be willing to knock on doors…but if you do, you will find ones will open.

glad to see someone else hates their UVA experience!

@Langgirl2 Why would you be glad to see that?

If you are at UVA and hate it, what are you doing to improve your experience or to transfer?
