I'm also planning on taking SAT Subject Tests next year: English Literature, Mathematics Level 1, and United States History (hoping for at least a 700). Also, I will have completed 7 AP's by the time I graduate: AP European History (10th); AP English Language and Composition, AP United States History, AP Art History (11th); AP English Literature and Composition, AP Microeconomics, AP United States Government and Politics (12th)...hope that helps :)

good God, blazer 08 i wouldn't be too worried if i were u, just work on writing a fabulous essay, that's what's crucial at u of c! u have to show them how much u love them..

thanks for the speedy replay lol

Hey guys! you can't change the grades you have! (They are good by the way) you can just study and put a lot of effort in those to come. And I think thanks what U.Chi wants to see. I am no an expert at this really.

At least let me tell ya about me, I was a straight B student (shameful!) up until 10th grade! 11th and 12th! I became a straight A student. Got 40/45 in the IB and well i think that is what counted.

Also, i know you guys do a lot of EC's, just as I did. Still, when it comes to the essays focus in one! and write it with ur heart...make your presence be felt. I wrote them the same day it was due, and I was really tired of writing. (It isn't as irresponsible as it sounds - I had draft works already and knew exactly what i was wanting to write, almost. ) Anyways, in one I was really direct, short sentences, straight and concise. In the other one, i talked about a community service experience, like from the heart. I dunno, they seemed to like it! so Yey!

About SAT's, I guess that depends on where one comes from. I studied in a English school, so we are prepared to take the Ib's not the SAT's! I got like 1850/2400!! and I got in! but that is, i'm sure, due to my high school grades and my score in the IB.

Anyways, my point is,
1) put a lot of effort in your essays and just let the voice within you to be listen.
2) Study for SAt's, high scores wouldn't hurt, but don't decide not to apply just because of what you get.
3) That is, as long as you maintain high grades at school!
4) RELAX! hehe

I don't think CMU will be a struggle for you and, judging by the people who have gotten in there from my school (probably around 20+ for my class already), you will definitely get in barring no disaster on the standardized tests, recs, and essays.

You are definitely on the right track for UC as well--just keep up the tough academic schedule you have and write great essays and you're in IMO.

ahhh thanks so much arellav u give me hope, my highest ACT thus far is 29 :( not enough for all ivies.. but chicago i hope will look beyond my sad ACT score (i hope i did better on yesterday's).. i do every activity in the world available to u of c prospies.. like MUNUC and summer session.. i am infatuated on the brink of obsession..

I think you guys put way too much stress on your extra curriculars and SAT scores. Sure, they count, but the essays and recommendations are the 2 most important things, I think, if you want to get into Chicago. They know that SAT scores tell only a tad about the student-- they know the truth, that the real student lies behind his essay, and his modesties (or unmodesties, for lack of a better word) lie with the teacher rec.

my teacher rec for summer session at u of c made my mom cry(i got in to summer session), so i'm pretty sure i'm ok there, i just have to pull my weight with the essays.. thanks GGross

yeah dude.............get even reasonable boards and sex them up with your essays and you're as good as in, senor.

it's senora, im a chica!

nada07,
I am really confused by your list of schools - what are you thinking of majoring in at UChicago?

really?....I mean i've had my own gender confustion problems, but hey.

RACE/GENDER: African-American/Male

(my dad really wants me to be an engineer) but my true passion is biology and chemistry and a bit of arabic... so probaly biology-neuroscience and near eastern languages and civilizations (my whole family is like engineer-ville)

Oh, I was looking at Blazer's, but..............yeah, you have good chances, it would be better if you could squeeze into the top 10%.

Again though, get good boards and have wonderfully attractive essays.

yeah i dream so too, my school is sick competitive though.. top 5% is full of cheaters it totally bites, us ppl with integrity get shafted..

nada07,
yikes ... engineering family. If you have to apply to an engineering school or two, apply to ones that require an interview. Tell the interviewer that you are only applying because of your dad, and aplolgize for wasting their time. Poof, instant rejection. You really don't want to end up at a school you don't want and in a major that doesn't suit you.

As Esquard mentioned, you want to concentrate on your grades. If you can make sure your first semester senior grades are stellar, you may have to flip a coin to decide whether EA or ED would be better.

You will need to pull yourself in with your essays - so give yourself lots of time to write and revise them.
