just a black man lookin for chances

i'm sure i could get into UT but i don't want to go there. it's too big. my graduating class will be 85. going somewhere where there are 100x that many people just doesn't sound like my cup of tea. smu's just as likely to accept me, it's closer to home, and it's not nearly as big.

thanks coolatroopa. do u know something about duke that could help me write a good "why duke" essay?

I just wrote about my visit there and what made it so enjoyable.

My two cents worth: I wouldn't count on UT as a safety unless you want to go there. Your safety is supposed to be a school you would be happy at. Stick with your original plan to apply EA to some schools (since it's non-binding, you can't lose.) Don't apply ED anywhere unless there is one school that you want to go to no matter what. ED can really cut down on the scholarship offers at some schools since they don't need to entice you to go there if you apply ED. I know you have posted on other boards, and I agree that you have good chances at most schools (nothing is guaranteed of course, not even the safeties). But, you might be surprised and swayed by some scholarship offers at some of the schools (my son was when he decided not to apply ED to Duke) so it is best to wait and weigh all the offers if there are several schools you could see yourself at. Good luck. BTW--what high school in Texas do you attend that you say is tops in the state?

st. mark's in dallas

thanks? nicely done on what?

Making so much of what life has offered you.

bumpity bumpity bumpity bump

Dude,
I think you can get into any college you want, including Stanford. Keep up the good work!

Dude, stats like yours I'd consider Yale.

yale? i guess i have a shot at getting accepted but that's not where i really wanna be. i've heard bad things about yale kids. i wanna be somewhere more laid back but still get a good education...and party haha

This looks good for you.

anybody else??????

most schools require FAFSA form, look at that first. then they just base any other financial aid packages on enticing you. so yea no ED is the best way to go. but if you have financial need, as in your family is very low income, then you should apply to some ivies, because they cover need 100%. duke should too i think... but yea i heard rice is good as well...look there? it had good med program but very rigorous.

gluck on being a doctor! its tough but worth it i heard.

hey man, i think your chances are great I agree with your vision about what kind of school you want to go to and I hope I'm lucky enough to join you in the class of '12

sweet.
anybody else?

Maybe consider UPenn? They're known for having good academics & good parties.. i'll be up there starting next week..so we'll see. But yea I think you have a really good chance. hopefully i'll get accepted as well fingers crossed

penn's already on my list actually...very high in fact. i'm gonna try to visit in the fall when classes are goin on and i can party and stuff.
