Just a couple of questions - any answers would be much appreciated :)

Hey there

My name is Julia and I'm an Australian, currently studying at the University of Queensland. University of Washington is a partner institution of my university, and offers 'study abroad' programs there, and to many other universities around the US.

I have been researching all the different universities they are partnered with, and have kind of deduced that Washington is the best choice, considering I am doing a communications degree. Would this be a correct assumption? What are people's experiences of the communication subjects on offer?

My application process is not like the process for someone applying to study there for the entire duration of their degree.. I would be going for one semester with the study I do over there being credited for my degree here (with tuition at UW being waived etc) I was just wondering if anyone knows of that particular process, and the dynamics that are involved? Would I be expected to do an entrance essay and all that jazz?

It just seems like such an amazing university, and I'm really worried that it's SO amazing that my chances of being accepted in the international exchange program are slim.

If I were lucky enough to be accepted, what are the best dorms? I'd be keen to make lots of new friends and get as much out of the American college experience as possible. Have people come across many Australians studying there? How are Australian's generally viewed...? :P

holy crap, sorry for the one million questions.

Thanks in advance, and thankyou for bearing through all my rambling.

People will probably be curious when they hear your accent and I would say it will probably be easy for you to make friends :)

UW has a ton of international students, so if you are a strong applicant I don’t see why you wouldn’t get accepted. I think the best way to get your questions answered about the application process would probably be to ask the people who run the study abroad program at your school, or ask students from your school who have already gone through the process.

In regards of dorms and general questions I think this link might be helpful if you click through it:

FWIW, there are quite a few Aussies here.
