Just a couple questions about my eligibility..

Hey everyone, I just have a few concerning questions about my eligibility and chances of getting into a CSU school.

I dropped out of high school as a Junior, so I did NOT walk… however, I did pass the “CAHSEE” test (California Highschool Exit Exam), and I’m under the impression that this counts as a “Diploma equivalent”. Is this correct? After dropping out of highschool junior year, I attended the local community college and scored a 3.36 GPA… I could have done a lot, lot better if I knew how to use online courses through the college, oh, and if my fitness professor didn’t give me a “B” in running lol… (btw, does this fitness class count towards my GPA?)

My fall semester classes:
ENGWR 300 - B
MATH 100 (Dropped this class, received a “W”)
ADMJ 300 - A
FITNESS400 - B
SOC 300 - B

Additionally, I am enrolled in another semester through the same CC this year for Spring (previously I completed fall). My classes are much better now that I know what I’m doing, they are:
MATH 100 - Hybrid (5 units)
PHIL 300 (3 units)
COMM 301 (3 units)
SPORT (3 units)
NUTRI 300 (3 units)
Total: 17 units

I am shooting for a 4.0 (of course)… hopefully to bring up my last semester GPA.

Also, I am an athlete and hope to play on a CSU sports team for my sport. I am fairly good, one of the best on my team, and improving. I realize I need at least 60 units to transfer, so by then I should be a very, very good player with the possibility of a scholarship.

Also, what are the official “Golden Four” classes? I have completed ENGWR 300, which I believe is one of the four, correct?

Finally, what are my chances getting into a CSU school? Preferably, I am looking at Fullerton and Chico State. One of my concerns is the fact that I don’t have a GED or technically graduated – yet my CCC allows me to attend under the assumption my CAHSEE is a “Diploma equivalent”. According to their website, you must either have a GED, or be 18+ years old … I am neither. I am 17 years old, and have no GED, however, it does also state a “Diploma equivalent” is acceptable, although while registering it simply asked if I had one, which I selected “yes”, it asked for no proof. I am concerned that the CAHSEE is not a real diploma equivalent and will hurt my chances of transferring? I truly regret dropping out of high school, but couldn’t handle the non-nonsensical bullying and torment I was receiving daily, and am actually really loving the college classes… hopefully the colleges can see this and look past my decision to drop out.

Thanks everyone!

The California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) is a voluntary test that assesses proficiency in basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills taught in public schools. Eligible persons who pass the CHSPE are awarded a Certificate of Proficiency by the California State Board of Education.

The CAHSEE is not the same test as the CHSPE, so do you have an official document showing that the CAHSEE is equivalent to a diploma?

I would contact CSU Fullerton and Chico state admissions and ask if they accept the CAHSEE.

CSU general education requirements (“Golden Four”) are designated as the following:

Oral Communication
Written Communication
Critical Thinking
Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning

Have you checked assist.org and looked up the courses the fulfill the “Golden four” at your CC?

The CSSPE does not equal a GED and a GED does not equal a HS diploma. I don’t think you HS status has a impact on the transfer process but, sit down with a guidance counselor at your CC and see what they say. I would also call or visit your target CSU and confirm your plan is viable.
Good luck.
