Hi everyone, currently attend a CCC and it's my first year. We go by the quarter system and currently in the Spring quarter. I have 32 units finished already and enrolled in 17. So in total I'll have 49 by the summer.

I plan on taking Pre-calc 3 (Last pre calc course i need before I can take calc) and accounting 1A (There are 3 parts which i need to finish all of them) during the summer so I can talk Calc immediately in the fall and my second accounting course as well because I plan to transfer as an Econ major.

So the questions are:

Is there a disadvantage with finishing some of my major pre-reqs after I apply? The things the 2 calc course, 3 accounting courses, and 1 stats course.

Will it hurt me? I've already finished my 2 econ courses for my major fyi.

Also do I send in my transcript quarter by quarter after I apply so the colleges know what I've been finishing and how I've been doing in those classes?

If I take my 2 summer classes it'll give me 59 units quarter units by the time I apply. Is that a good or a bad thing? You're only required to have 45 units by the time you apply and I'll be way over.

Thank you!

I will try to answer your questions the best I can;

I don’t believed there is a disadvantage just make sure to finish both a math transferable course as well as an english transferable course before you apply some schools have these requirements.

You only send your transcripts after the college you apply to accepts you and you decided to attend that specific school.

The number of units you earn won’t negatively affect you as there is a 70 unit cap on the courses you take at a CCC. Any units past 70 will transfer as subject credit and not unit credit.

Although it won’t hurt if you complete pre-req courses after you apply in the fall, depending on which school you apply to, it could be advantageous to complete them prior. Most people DO have heavy pre-req courses in progress during the fall/spring prior to transfer, but if you’re aiming for UCLA or UCB, it would be to your benefit to complete them as early as possible so the colleges can see that you are on the ball and are not a high risk applicant later on. Not having them completed prior to fall isn’t going to hurt you, but it /could/ help for the powerhouse schools. Anyways, what LA was saying was pretty much spot on.

When I talked to an admissions officer in the Fall, she said that it’s ok to have one or two prereqs left for the Spring after you apply. The general message was that they need enough info to be able to tell what type of student you are and how strong you are in different areas. If you’ve been cranking out all A’s in all the math prereqs except one that is left for the Spring, they’ll assume you’ll get an A in that last prereq.

Probably not much unless you are saving a lot of classes until after you apply.

No. There something called a transfer academic update (TAU). You update it periodically to show your current classes/grades after you apply. It’s basically just updating the app you already completed.

You’re fine in terms of units.

Good luck on your transfer journey! And am I right to guess that you go to DeAnza/Foothill? It’s the only CCC system i’ve heard of that goes by quarter system.

I am transferring to UC Davis this fall and I have a total of over 200 units. They take the ones they need and don’t worry about this rest. As long as all your units are from a cc it doesn’t matter how many you have.

Thank you everybody! This really helped me out
I guess taking pre-calc 3 and accounting during summer should be a good idea because if I do well in them I guess they’ll know that I can handle the higher levels of it.

@Darksaber91 I do attend De Anza haha. Where do you go?
