*michigan youth band 1 yr (um just making it is usually an honor, its conducted by the umich band professor, music is usually college level, did this since i couldn't fit band into my school schedule, traded it for a language)
*french club 1 yr (co-president)
*science olympiad 1 yr (it just started last year, original member, first year results: 1st place disease detectives, 5th place astronomy, 9th place school overall out of 24 teams considering we didn't enter any building competitions, if we entered n got last place in all the building ones we would've qualified for states)

REACH
Columbia
Dartmouth
Harvard
U Chicago
U Penn
Wash U
Yale
MATCH
U Michigan (its like almost a safety cuz i'm in state n the school's REALLY friendly w/my high school n stuff)
UC Berkeley
UC LA
SAFETY
MSU
UC Irvine
UC San Diego

is my list skewed?? should i have more safeties??? ne input is appreciated!!

Are you only looking at large universities? Would you consider smaller liberal arts schools?

i most def prefer larger universities. my parents think a liberal arts education is a waste of money and they're the ones paying for tuition so i kinda hafta listen to that.

I would tone down the list of reaches. There's nothing wrong with those schools, but do your research before you settle on them. Also, Berkeley and maybe even UCLA should be on your reach list. Out-of-state those are incredibly difficult schools to get into, even for stellar students. There's almost no one that has a big enough shot to get into those OOS to consider them matches, the competition is just simply too fierce with so few OOS spots. Any school you need to get lucky to get into should be on your reach list. UC San Diego likewise is a match at best.

That said, I would look at schools a little easier to get into, even if you can get into some reaches. With a list like that, you don't want to receive 10 rejection letters and be stuck choosing from 2 colleges. Do some research, find some colleges that you're not guaranteed to get into but that you have an excellent shot. Ann Arbor is a great school if that's where you end up going, but I would add a few more match schools and tone down your list of reaches.

quite honestly i think i'll end up @ umich despite the outcome of any of the reach schools. its kinda more like i don't wanna regret not trying and if i am lucky enough to get into yale or w/e i'd probley end up using it to barter for a better scholarship or sumthin from mich. i don't think i'm serious about 1/2 of the schools on the reach list so i guess when it comes down to it...
Reach: Yale
Match: Umich
Safety: MSU

mich_GIRL88:

UCB/UCLA: Match (out of state)
UCSD: Safe Match (out of state)
UCI: Safety (out of state)

thnx flopsy

MSU = definite safety. You could also get into the Honors College.
