I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some suggestions for school that I would have a reasonable bet to transfer into.

Currently I am a first semester sophmore at a small relatively selective (about a 50% acceptence rate) liberal arts college in the mid-atlantic. Some things have made me not as happy here as I originally thought I would be and I am now looking to transfer.

My gpa is a little low after freshman year about 2.7, and at the midterm this semester my gpa is rising with 2 A's and 2'Bs in pretty difficult courses. I am also pretty involved in various committees at the college such as academic integrity and intercollegiate athletic boards. I am a member of a varsity sports team here and I have had many community service activities along with an internship in US Congress.

In high school i finished with a 3.4 gpa at a good public high school and i had a 1240 on the old sat. I took 4 ap classes and have credit for 2 of them.

So my cry for help is what colleges would I have a decent chance of being accepted as a transfer even with my relatively low college gpa? I am not too picky about a big or small school, i just would like to go somewhere with a good academic repuation.

Any suggestions would be greatly apprechiated

I'm curious, what exactly do you mean by "good academic reputation"? It seems like your current school is challenging for you. I think that it's going to be a tough sell if you're just looking to move up the USNWR ladder.

i am looking for a school similar to my current one of better if i would have a chance of being accepted. I am not transfering for academics but it is not something that i want to sacrafice.

i am not obsessed with rankings, its more i don't want to sacrafice the overall quality of my education when i transfer

the school that i am at i feel is not what i wanted it to be originally, making friends is not something that is very difficulty for me so its not the emotional weight that i am worried about either.

i am just seeing if anyone could give me picture of where i would have a reasonable chance of admission since i am stumped at the moment.

well then why are you looking to transfer?

what college are you at now? you need not be so vague if you want good answers

and i agree, i couldn't envision you getting into a school as good as the one you may be at now, but i dont know where your at now, sooooooo help us help you

i am at muhlenberg college in eastern, pa. i really would like to keep my reasons for transfering personal because thats not really the big concern. this is no spur the moment choice that i have made, i have been thinking about it for a long time.

well you arent going to get into a better school than your at now, you'll have an outside shot at getting into an institution of the same level...if you really want to get out of that school, however, be prepared however to go to a somewhat lesser school, maybe even look at your local CC

we really need more in terms of what you're looking for however, there are literally hundreds of schools to look into...Uconn, pace, maybe rutgers...dunno

What about your home state public universities? Do any of them have decent programs in your possible major fields? They probably would be the very easiest to get into - not to mention likely to be cheaper than where you are now.

UConn would be a reach. A lot of schools require a 3.0 for transfer applicants. You might, however, have some luck with test-optional schools, since they tend to look at a lot more than just the transcript. If you can do an interview, write great essays, and get outstanding recommendation letters that address why your GPA will probably be better when you transfer, that could be a real possibility. I definitely wouldn't give up hope. :) Especially since your poor grades are from your first semester, which is always a difficult transition time for people, especially if they're in a place that's not necessarily the best fit, which is what the case appears to be with you.

Thanks, I am from Pennsylvania so my state schools would be something like Pittsburgh or Penn State, which are no slouch schools. I am confident with my interview skills and I can get some pretty good rec's from my prof's here this semester since I am pulling pretty good grades thus far.

I think I have pretty good credentials minus my gpa.
