So I am currently engaged in email dialogue with MAJ Romans regarding my DMV record.

I have two speeding tickets on my record. Is this a big deal regarding admissions? I am an already admitted Cadet Candidate.

In my state, Virginia, a person who was under 18 and receives two speeding tickets automatically has his license suspended. This is purely through the DMV and is statutory.

so my driving record isn't that great, but I have no accidents... but do you think they would revoke an appointment based on this? how do they usually handle speeding tickets?

More similar to the latter. I usually don't speed... I was not aware of the actual speed the first time. The car seemed to be moving reasonable speed and I neglected to look at the speedometer cause of a conversation. Mistake, I know, however it was an accident. The second time I was hurrying home and was a bit over the limit.

I'm in the same situation and am also interested in the answer (although in Texas we just pay the fine and keep our licenses)... my first was pretty bad (around 20 over, I think) but the second was 45/35. The most recent was a year and a half ago, so it's not a current problem... I was just irresponsible when I first got my license.

Would an accident with a ticket affect my chances of acceptance to any of the academies or ROTCs? I was not the best driver when I got my license, got in an accident 20 days after. Got a failure to reduce speed ticket. Been driving alot better since then, tomorrow it will have been 1 year, haven't had any tickets or anything.

Tickets are not really that bad, as long as alcohol is not involved, especially if you are underage. Also, you should be forth coming about the information, as you have been. I think you should be fine.

I recently received a principal nomination to USMA, I have not yet been appointed, was told that i would receive the official letter in mid-feb. but I also just got a speeding ticket ( 40 in a 30 ) My county usually treats this by 'retiring' or pretty much just throwing the ticket out if its your first ticket and it doesn't go on your record if you show up to court, should I tell USMA about this? or should I show up to court (april 5) and see if it goes on my record and if not then don't worry about it, and if so then tell USMA?

I know USMA checks police record, but thats criminal records, so really USMA doesn't even see your traffic record, so is there even a need to tell them in the first place? just curious, don't want to screw up anything when I'm so close.

The Cadet Honor Code: A Cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal,or tolerate those who do.

When you attend USMA you live by this code. Violation is cause for dismissal. And it is enforced.

If you have a ticket, no matter the reason or the result (expunged, tossed, etc) you MUST disclose it. Failure to do so will be grounds for revoking your appointment. Each year a couple of appointees lose thier appointment for failure to make a full disclosure. Do not risk it.

how did you go about disclosing it to USMA? on your initial application? after you were accepted? personal email / letter? phone call?

My court date isn't until April 5 so I'm not sure if I shoudl wait till then, cause most likely it won't even go on my record and they'll just throw out the ticket, so it may not even matter so I don't want to tell them yet so I think I might just wait till after my court date to decide whta I should do about it.

Do not wait...send a letter or e-mail to your Admissions Director explaining the circumstances of the ticket. He/she will tell you what, if anything, you need to do next.

I sent an email to my MALO about 2 hours ago so I'll let yal know what he says as soon as I get it back so any mysterious surrounding this can hopefully be answered. Thanks for the input.

Good luck Tn48th. I don't think that it will be a problem. I've been following some of your post-you've been thru the hard part-you'll be there at W.P. soon enough.

thank you for the encouragement, its greatly appreciated. Seems like anytime something good comes along for me its shortly followed by something bad, I'll be glad when I'm finally there and won't have to worry about anything else except for just being there.

USAFA tells me they have an appointment in hand for me (YAY) then I get medically denied case closed, I finally get medical waiver to USMA, then I get wait listed, I then get principal nomination YAY then I get ticket like week and a half later theres been alot more ups and downs with this process those are just the major ones, and I'm still here. I don't think it'll be that big of a deal either just a matter of going through it. thanks again and I'll let yal know when I get official word.

I listed my speeding tickets when they asked for information regarding any criminal record (including traffic violations).

Now that I am accepted, I would imagine the police dept. in my area will restate the speeding tickets to USMA when I give them the "Police Record Check".

just got an email back from my MALO on this and he said

"Contact your Regional Admissions Officer, and let him know. This
won't negatively affect anything, but it surves you well to be
proactive... Speeding tickets, unfortunately, happen all too
frequently. I hope you get the ticket dismissed, and if you do, please
let him know. "

So I have now emailed my regional admissions officer, and I'll let yal know what comes of it. Looks like its no big deal at all just be up front and honest about everything, as is the usual policy
