Just a note for those deciding

For those who are deciding whether or not to come to Stony Brook, I have something I would like to say. I know that for many people a big concern about this school is about the commuting during the weekend. It really frustrates me when people turn away from Stony Brook just because of this reason. When I first started this whole process, I didn't even care about that. It shouldn't matter. I personally enjoyed the nice, quiet, peaceful weekends with less people. It's true that people do leave but really, I don't see the big deal. It doesn't make it feel any less of a dorming life. There are still plenty of people on campus.

And if you feel like it's a "ghost town" then go out and find something to do. Meet new people. There are others just like you.
Also, keep in mind that on the weekends most people just sleep in really late or stay inside. Not every person will be out and about.

That's all what I wanted to say. I'm just giving you some insight. If you're going to turn down Stony Brook because of this commuting reason, then I'd say it's foolish.

-Freshman at Stony Brook; successfully completed my first semester!

Well, i m going to SBU this spring semester, i hope i can meet somebody like u. Commuting during the weekend was a problem for me. Since i saw ur post, i m ensure that transfer to SBU is a good choice.

Thanks. I hope you enjoy it here!

Considering the school I’m coming from is pretty desolate, I don’t think I’ll have a problem with that part of it.

Thanks for this post, I completely agree, and people need to actually see that it’s not that bad. You WILL find friends who either live too far (love my out of state friends!) or just don’t go home that much.
