Just a Question about Pre-Med programs...

Ok basically i know there is no chance at me making it to a BA/MD program so...i was wondering what are some of the top Bio undergrad programs. I'm looking at really prestigious schools.
-one catch i'm poor so i cant afford Ivys and Privates
-I live in Cali
-my High School Stats are ok (not great)
-WOndering mostly about UCSD but other opinions are welcome

Thanks a bunch in advance

Don't Penn State and Rutgers offer such programs?

that wasn't the topic of the thread but anyways i know that Rutgers offers it..not sure too much about Penn State

either way i have no chance espcially out of state

It was off topic? I made the conjecture that you were inquiring as to good premed programs. I was wrong. I'm no premed, I just know friends who applied to such places.

I think he was mainly wondering about public schools in CA with good bio programs. He didn't state it outright but it was implied.

true that norcalguy im looking at cali
but i know taht i have no chance at those seven year programs
so i was wondering most prestigious Bio programs that will help me if i apply to med school after undergrad

thanks

Ah I should have known the Cali reference was alluding to something.

If you are poor, you can get financial aid...

Yes, if you are poor, schools especially the Ivys give you very good money to help

Whats your yearly income and do you have any assets?

Remember that "pre-med" isn't a major. Most colleges will tell you the number of graduates accepted to medical school (and many have those numbers on their websites).

Are you planning to major in biology because you like it and want to study it? If so, then go for it. If not, and you just think it'll look good to medical schools, forget it. Just like everyone else, medical schools have begun looking at the "whole person" - they have begun to realize that people skills for many physicians are just as important as basic science. So if your passion is, say, English lit, major in English lit and take the few required science courses. A different major could make you stand out to med schools!
