Hello everyone! My senior year of high school is approaching, meaning I will start applying for colleges very soon. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive my desired ACT score of a 27+. I was looking on collegeboard, and I noticed that most deadlines for application submission were January 1st, and the deadlines for ACT/SAT submission were February 1st. Does this mean that I am able to send my application in without test scores, and then send the test scores in by the test score deadline? Hypothetically speaking, let's say I recieve a 24 on the ACT by February, and test scores are due. So I send that in, however, I receive a 28 after the deadline has passed. Would I be able to update my colleges and send this new score in as a supplement to my application to show them that I improved? This could potentially significantly increase my chances of admission. Thanks in advance for the help :)

Anyone? :)

Yes, you can send parts of your application in separately. (This really makes sense, since you don’t really have any control over when colleges will receive recommendation letters from your teachers, transcripts from your high school, etc.) So you can submit your application when it’s ready, and send test scores from later in the fall.

At most colleges–notably, not the relatively small number of universities and colleges that practice “rolling admissions”–they won’t even look at your application until after the deadline. They will collect all the pieces (application form, recommendations, transcripts, test scores) in a file, and somebody will read that file after the admissions deadline has passed. So there is no need to have ACT scores that you’re satisfied with before you submit the rest of you application.

As for ACT scores that you get after the deadline: it is possible, but not certain, that the new scores would be considered. Most colleges, I think, will consider them if they get them before they evaluate your file, but they’re unlikely to go back and re-evaluate if they’re already done.

Thank you so much! This really helps So essentially I could send everything in except my test scores, and then send those in when they are ready. Thankssss :)
