Hi to all :),

I am just writing to ask you all one little question: I am mostly set on what I want to do (it's going to be in the music field,) HOWEVER, I cannot decide which of the following to do:

either jazz voice

or

musical theater. I've had experience more so with musical theater, less wiht jazz voice, enjoy both the same, want to do both, and i know i can't.

Next semester, I am taking off just to straighten things and to reaudition for some programs. I am just wondering, do you think it'd be wrong to try for musical theater, let's just say?

You might want to look into the vocal music program at Belmont.

My son just auditioned there last weekend for commercial music with a vocal performance emphasis. That curriculum covers not just classical, but other genres like jazz and pop. This was just the first audition of the year; check their website for other dates. He had to prepare a classical piece and two contemporary pieces in contrasting styles. There is also a musicianship test. I do think you would get excellent vocal training there.

Belmont University also offers MT, and they will allow you to switch majors, although you will have to audition for it, if you change your mind. That is what the dean of the school of music told us last weekend. I've heard mixed things about their MT program, which is why my son chose to use it for a vocal performance major instead. But he also said he would not mind going there at all, if he doesn't get into an MT program somewhere else. It is a small school in a large city, and of course there are all kinds of music performances going on all the time at the university and around the city.
