Just a quick question

I dont think i have a chance in hell at getting into columbia but i think i might just apply for the hell of it. Do u think there is any chance that i would be able to get in (if you think i have no chance at all dont be afraid to say so, like i said i dont think i would ever be accepted)
Here is my resume:
I am a junior at a private college prep school in NJ (St. Joseph HS)

My accumulative GPA up till now is 2.8, but that is due to a very bad freshman year, my GPA last year was 3.4 or 3.5 i dont really remember, and this year for the first quarter i got a 3.0 but hope to finish around 3.5 again

I am an active member in about 5 clubs in my school

I am probobly going to have the President of my school and one or two high ranking people in my addminstration write my letters of recomendation.

If I apply I will go RD

My school does not rank

My PSAT was 1570 out of 2400, I did not take my SAT or ACT yet.

Like i said i dont think i would ever get in but i was thinking about applying just for the hell of it, tell me if you think i have any realalistic chance to get it? (also like I said dont be afriad to tell me what u really think)

PS - I typed this pretty quick so please forgive any typos - lol

2.8 GPA? ... err... that's really low. I guess it doesnt hurt to just try if you can spare $70... but if you can think of anything else useful at all to do with it I'd forgo completing the app and everything. gl.

....sorry, i dont think you have a chance, also a word of advice, the rank of the people writing ur recs isnt important at all what matters is how well they know you....you'd be better off finding a couple of teachers who know your work well and like you.

Im not arguing with the fac that my GPA is low but doesnt it look less bad being that i had a 3.5 last year and this year i started off with a 3.1 and will probobly finish with around a 3.5 again??

@ Shraf about recs......... that makes sense

the kind of improvement they are looking for isnt from the beginning of a school yr to the end of it...its from freshman year to senior yr and it should be continuous

@ Snarf... i know, thats wat im talking about, lets say that i got a 2. watever first year then last year i had a 3.5 and then this year i finish with around a 3.5, doesnt it make my 2.8 acumalative look not so bad being that i'v been on track since the begging of my first year?

...my name isnt snarf :(

and 3.5 to 3.5 isnt an improvement, theres still alot of room above a 3.5 for imporvement...even if you had a 3.5 cummulative it would be low.

Yeah, I really think you have absolutely no chance. The GPA is horrific and even a 3.5 -- your best semester -- is very low for Columbia. If your PSAT is indicative of your SAT, that's also absurdly low for Columbia.

LOL sorry about the typo Sharf, and since u are from NY u might now another question that i have, my heart is really set on NYU, i have 3 uncles that went there and 1 cousin and i am going to apply early decision b/c i heard that incresed the chances of being accepted. do u think i would have a shot there? and if not do u have any recomendations of colleges in big cities that i would be quilified for. (i really wana go to school in a big city)

@ columbia2002, lol ya i realize that, im really just making this post for fun, i relize that i have no shot it hell to get into columbia, lol

no need to be SO harsh Columbia2002 =/

Just being honest. OP's realistic about things and realizes that the deck is stacked against him for Columbia. I don't think I need to cradle my opinions in flowery sensitive language.

@ columbia, dont worry about it, i can face the facts, i apriciate your honesty
