just a quick question...

statistically speaking... is it easier to get into the AEM major of CALS or is it easier to get into CAS (putting econ as intended major). Im not choosing a major simply on selectivity and not applying to the major just cuz its easier to get in... i just want to noe the answer if anyone can tell me. I like both programs so im actually pretty fine going to either, but just wanna noe a rough idea... thx

Generally speaking, CAS is tougher to get into than CALS. But one never knows. You better apply to the college you prefer rather than apply to a college just because it is easier to get into.

Alexandre is correct, the College of Arts and Sciences is much more selective than Agriculture and Life Sciences. College of Arts and Sciences had a 21.7% acceptance rate for the class of 2009. Agriculture and Life Sciences had about a 29% overall acceptance rate for 2009.

However, within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is the AEM department, Cornell's accredited undergraduate business program. The acceptance rate for AEM was 19% for the class of 2008 and 20% for 2009. Statistically it would seem that you have almost an even chance at both CAS and AEM.

I agree wholeheartedly with Alexandre - you should follow your passion and apply to the program that most interests you. I have used this quote from a previous post before, but it might help you decide <<basically, students="" that="" want="" an="" “undergraduate="" business="" degree”="" would="" be="" interested="" in="" aem,="" and="" on="" a="" macro="" (broad)="" level="" might="" more="" inclined="" to="" choose="" economics.="">></basically,>

There is a lot written on these boards comparing the two programs. I suggest you search previous threads if you want to know more.

Good luck with your decision. They are both great programs.
