Hey fellow SCEA admits, can't wait to meet you all next year and/or at Admit Weekend. Anyways, now that we're all kinda stuck in the college doldrums before we get to Stanford, I just was wondering how many of you have had a similar experience to me regarding how your friends/classmates reacted to you getting in. I didn't come into school broadcasting it or anything, kids actually had to ask me to find out...but now there's rumors going around that I have an uncle on the board--I even had a teacher ask me about this one, rich parents (when I'm a first-gen who is getting 40k in aid...), etc. etc. Have any of you guys had the same?? It's unbelievable what people will do to take away from the things you achieve. I can't wait to get to Stanford where there's actually camaraderie and we all get to work toward that higher goal TOGETHER.

hey, well for me I called one person and the whole school knew by Monday....but don’t worry too much about HOW you get on...b/c whatever you put on your app was good enough for Stanford

How many of you have decided to actually go to Stanford? I am still applying to Harvard and MIT... but even if I get into those schools, I am still leaning toward Stanford b/c overall it is better

What about ya'll?

Yeah, I applied to other schools pre-stanford acceptance and its nice now because there's no stress...I'm pretty much going to Stanford no matter what but it's nice to see schools want you lol

yess...i feel the same way...i told two people by the end of the day everyone knew..Ppl were saying congrats to my face but talkin **** about me..Saying stuff like i shouldn't have gotten in and blahbalh..It reallly hurt alot because i worked hard.. I feel as if i have to keep my acceptance a secret. My friend comes in evey other day sauing how she got into Elon n Hoftsra and i have to keep quiet about my achievement...im really not liking my school right now n it totally sucks that i have to keep this to myself!!Thats why i love CC and cant wait to meet you guys!!

I'm pretty sure that there's a thread about where else we've applied and where we might go instead (MIT probably for me, maybe Dartmouth), so you can check that out. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=276629

Most of my teachers don't know, and I'm glad a lot of my classmates don't know because I am a double legacy. However, I know I worked hard for this admission and I doubt I got in because of my parents, and wouldn't want people trying to tell me it wasn't because of my hard work.

yeah, i dont even wear stanford gear to school

yelll all my close friends say ppl are jus hatinnn but i think that sounds alil conceited

Most people have been really negative towards me since I got in. :( But, you know what, I only have 5 months left of school, and I have some great friends who are always by me. The people who are giving me all this poo don't matter b/c they probably were never my friends anyways. I'm very happy that I got into my dream school, and I'm glad I'm over all the negativity that has been thrown towards me. To anyone in a similar position: just ignore it all. It'll be over soon, and we're going to a great place! Enjoy that, because most of those others aren't! There's a lot of jealousy, and that's what we have to deal with. :)

That's interesting. I didn't get any negative things said about me (to my knowledge...) when I got in. In fact, as I was still deciding between Stanford and State U., I got a lot of people wondering why the heck I hadn't made up my mind for Stanford yet.

The second I got in, I called my best friend (since 6th grade) even though it was 5:00 AM. He was even more excited than I was. I told him not to tell anyone coz I didn't want to seem arrogant or anything. The only other person I told was my Principal and word kind of spread that way. People have been nice about it but honestly they really don't know too much about colleges in the US.

i have been astonished by the speed that college news travels around school

As for negative feelings, here's an easy solution: just think, they're probably going to be asking YOU for a job in ten years. Muhahaha! :-P

Ya my school's joke is:
what travel's faster than the speed of light? insert a highschool name here's rumor mill.

And that applies double for college news.

That's totally like a hitchhiker's guide quote.
"One of the problems has to do with the speed of light and the difficulties involved in trying to exceed it. You can't. Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws."

Douglas Adams is amazing.

^figgiesblazin: rofl.

Interesting concept, though. I think it was Einstein who said that the only way you can time travel is by going faster than the speed of light. Impossible? I dunno...if Einstein had lived a few more years or decades, maybe he would have figured it out. All the theory on such topics is sooo much fun to read about! I have a few books on the stuff if anyone wants to read more about it. Time travel's a really trippy thought. One of those things that gives you headaches the more you think about it. :D

Actually, according to Einstein, you can travel forward in time without exceeding the speed of light. To travel backwards into the past, you would have to exceed the speed of light which is impossible.

"impossible"
