just a thought

you guys noticed these extremely good stats. When i first came to CC as a junior, i was blown away by the incredibly good stats. I mean..here, there are numerous valedictorians with God-like grades and test scores. Is this for real or are these stats just exaggerated?

Common opinion suggests the site attracts a disproportionate number of them.

A lot of people are fake, but the truth is that CC tends to represent the cream of the cream of the cream of the crop---simply because in order to seek out a college website, a student must have interest, and if they have interest, they truly probably care about their future and thus, have astronomical stats. (most likely because they've been getting ready for college since fifth grade.)

5th GRADE??!!! ***!!!! dood...i didnt even know anything about college and didnt hear about Harvard until i was sophmore. haha..well im first generation and my stats are pretty decent. Yea, cuz i went here, i was like WHOA..look at these stats.

haha, i was horrified when i came here. its good to know not everyone at the schools im applying to has won a nobel prize.

Simply put, large amounts of people see other people's high stats which are the real things, get jeolous because they can't match up to them, get mad at themselves, then at the person who is better then them, then post things up so to intimidate others and to make them feel like they are feeling.

But then there are those few who actually achieved the incredible numbers during their school career, something they definately should be credited for.

But if you were actually a type of person that was hard-working and responsible, I really doubt they come here to type their stats up and ask "what are my chances", if they know themselves that its good. (And these people are rarely arrogant, but then there are those few...)

So, in my opinion, I disregard all those posts where their stats are like 5 full scrolls down, and they end with "so what do you think..?"

We're all human. Colleges know that.

Actually some of us are robots.

Ok, Tami, work on your grammar and spelling. Second, I completely agree with Lover. This site is not going to be sought out by a student unless they are driven and successful and actually care about their future. Think about it. Would an average Joe go online to look for college advice from other people? No, probably not. The only people who would do that are those who REALLY care and thus are the strongest applicants. Looking at this site and considering everyone here as average, even for the schools that they are applying to, is definitely a bad idea.
Also note, that on the main page of College Confidential, they have links to discussions about the Ivy League schools. Those who come here, probably 60% at least, are looking into Ivy League schools. Not only that, they will probably be some of the strongest applicants.

I don't really see a point on why I should even for a mere second care about my spelling and grammar, if you obviously got my point. And since you criticized me about my spelling and grammar, I guess its safe to bet that while typing up your own post, you spent a little extra time checking your own self, so that I can't call you a hypocrite.

Hey Tami, I agree with you. You can't believe everything you read here. There are some amazing achievers on these boards, but you'll find a good share of "trolls" mixed in. While many posters are honest and well meaning, you will no doubt come across some people who have absolutely no qualification (e.g. haven't even taken the SATs or ACT yet!) "evaluating" someone's chances of admission at a given school!

But no one asked for qualified ppl! They just want to know what you think-- they don't ask if you're qualified and they don't care. Do you think they are misled into thinking that there are a vast number of college experts posting here and not just teenagers? Trolls aren't smarter than amazing achievers on the subjest of college admissions. OP's only want to feel better--feed me pablum please! Don't think they are so stupid as to listen, but, they will be happy if you pet them.

You didn't hear about Harvard until you were a sophomore? Where were you living, a bubble?

No, my mom and dad nver really cared about my grades and only seem to care about my conduct grades.( Iduno, they beleive attitude is more important than grades.) I did pretty decent in school but didnt look into any colleges until junior. Well the funny thing is the only college i knew in sophmore was UCLA and the UC's because i live in L.A.

"But no one asked for qualified ppl! They just want to know what you think-- they don't ask if you're qualified and they don't care."

Bettina I agree with you that most people on the WAMC threads just want to know what one thinks. However, I was really referring to the people who get a kick out of putting down others without justification, unfortunately the WAMC threads are where they seem to thrive.
