apparently andover and exeter and all the other top tier schools had a huge increase in FA applicants, and applicants in general while "second tier" schools had a decrese. does that mean 2nd tier might have been able to give out more FA? just a thought. any ideas?

I speak not with any authority, but my sense is that no schools were “very generous” with FA in general this year. And I also sense that it will get worse before it gets better.

i agree. i just thought that maybe it was less competitive in a 2nd tier school b/c everyone rushed to the top since they are known for thier FA.

It is an intriguing question, but short of getting the data from the schools, I don’t know how you would ever answer it. Where are you going, and did you apply for FA?

local high school. i got waitlisted. i might reapply next year…so i was just thinking about it

Admission to a “lesser tier” school may be easier, but FA is hard to say, assuming their endowment has decreased proportionally as well.

Check out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/668179-whos-going-lesser-tier-aka-not-mentioned-often-cc-schools.html; someone just posted that he had applied to Loomis last week and got it, so admission is definitely easier.
