I was just accepted to Gettysburg through Early Decision today.
I've been reading a lot about the school lately and I've been noticing a lot of people talking about the heavy greek life influence. I don't plan on joining a sorority and I'm not much of a party person so I'm kind of worried that I won't "fit in".
So, is it really that big a deal that I'm not into kegstands and chants of "CHUG! CHUG!" at 2 AM? Will I just be totally out of place?

I realize that I HAVE to go to the school now and that I should've thought of this earlier (oh, the woes of early decision!) but I suppose I'm just seeking some reassurance..

I am also interested in seeing the reply to your post. My D is applying to Gettysburg, but she is not very interested in greek life either, and specifically asked the interviewer about it. He told her it was a popular option on campus, but not pervasive, and she was willing to buy into that because she otherwise really liked the school. But I have my own doubts, and feel it would be good for her to have a fuller picture.

I graduated from Gettysburg in '04 and the whole Greek thing was never really an issue for me. I had friends who did decide to go Greek, and a ton of friends who were like me and didn't feel compelled to join. I never felt like there was a lack of things for me to do and I never felt marginalized for not being Greek (like I did when I was at F&M*).

I know that's pretty general. If you (potential students and/or parents) have any specific questions about social life for non-Greeks or any questions about Gettysburg in general feel free to PM/email/etc.

I spent my first semester at F&M. Didn't really like it, and decided to transfer.

My S is a freshman at F&M, does not intend to join a frat and does not feel marginalized for not doing so. His experience has been different from yours of a few years ago. Perhaps things have changed a bit in the last few years. Anyway, I'm glad things worked out for you at Gettysburg.
