just another AP question...

okay, so i just read somewhere that some schools let you self-study an AP in place of a regular class. or at least that's what it sounded like. is this true? if your school does this, what type of school is it and how did you go about substituting that class with an AP self-study?

u don't "Substitute" class with ap self-study. u dont get credit.

its just so you are prepared to take the test. without the class.

You can't opt-out of a class to self study. You self study in addition to the classes you take.

You don't take a class (it doesn't appear on your school transcript). You just self study in order to prepare for the exam. Of course, if you think you know the material, you don't need to study and you can take the test cold, but I don't recommend it.

i know that. the thing i read just sounded like you were allowed to use self-studying as a class. confused me for a second there. haha i probably should have gone to bed earlier last night. thanks for the reply though =)

Self-Studying is just pure studying. No exemptions, no credit, no teacher. You study because you want to take you OWN time to study. However if you are talking about an Independent Study Program at your school, that is completely different and you should go to your coordinator if you want to take Independent Study.

okay, i think that is what i was trying to describe. the thing i read must have been talking about independent study, though i thought that was the same thing as self-study. oops. i'm sure my school doesn't offer independent study, but now i'm curious as to what it is. would anyone care to explain?

its like doing a research project. by yourself. for credit.

thanks ostonzi. my school is pretty underachieving, so i haven't even heard about a lot of these things.

At my school you can independent study. Depends on the situation but you don't usually get credit. Depends on the situation if you opt-out of the class.

Ohhh, independent study. We have an independent study for computer science (taken after completion of AP CS) where you work with a faculty member and write code for the school and other independent work. Or stuff like that. I've never taken it, so I don't know.

I self-studied four APs. It involved just buying a book and paying for the test... nothing to do with the school really...
