Hey guys, I applied EDII to the BPE program and Stern and was wondering what my people thought my chances would be? I don’t have a strong business background in my ECs because not much was offered, but I have great stuff for BPE I’d say.
ACT: 34 (35E 34M 33R 32S 11W)
GPA: 3.68UW / 4.5 W (Strong upward trend, went from mostly Bs Freshman year to almost straight As)
SAT Subject: 800 World History / 760 Math I / 720 Lit
Class Rank: 118/513 (Top 25%)
AP: US Gov 3, World History 5, European History 5, Lang 5, Physics I 3, US History 5, Comp Sci 4, Calc AB 4
Demographics: Upper middle class, White, Male, Kentucky
ECs:
President of Model UN Club - Our club is sort of new, I have been involved since it was founded. I put a lot of time in.
Y-Club - Community service and youth government club. Have been involved for 7 years now.
Latin Club Vice President - Mostly for fun, we attend a conference once a year.
Beta Club
Part-Time job - I make pizzas as a part time job.
Tutoring - I tutor 2 middle-schoolers in math every week.
Academic Team
Study Abroad in Germany - One of my biggest things, wrote common app essay about it. A ton of fun, we traveled around Europe (but mostly Germany) studying contemporary politics/economics within the European Union. We also spent two days volunteering at refugee camps and more than that learning about the refugee crisis.
Essays/Recs:
US Gov/Comp Gov Teacher (8 or 9/10): He is also my Model UN coach and he loves me. I am his favorite student, and he is known within the school for writing incredible rec letters.
Physics Teacher (6 or 7/10): Pretty good writer, knows me well, wrote a lot about my ECs and passions.
Common App Essay (7/10): I wrote about how when I was in Germany staying with my host family I fell while mountain biking and had pretty serious cuts on my face (serious enough to have to be flown in a helicopter to the hospital, I still have pretty bad scars), my college planner helped me edit it so it’s better than if I wrote it alone.
NYU Essay (8/10): Made sure to avoid NYC tropes, focused a lot on the global reach of NYU and how the BPE program is perfect for me (incorporating my love for politics/economics, Model UN, and my Germany trip), also wrote about the opportunity available in NYC, talking about the United Nations/Global Businesses. Pretty proud of it, probably my most time intensive essay.
I’d appreciate any response, will chance me back if you want.
P.S. Does anyone have any information on the BPE program in terms of how it’s different from Stern? I have read up as much as I can but there just isn’t that much solid info. What is class like in the abroad campuses? Is it much more Liberal Artsy than regular Stern? Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
