Just Another Housing Thread....

Hey, I'm new here, and I'm going to be a 'Nole Freshman this fall.

I've been straddling the fence between on and off campus housing for a while now, but just in the past week or so have I made the decision to try for a dorm.

Ideally I'd like a Single W/ Bath in the Landis Hall (I was accepted into Honors a few weeks back), but I know with such a high Priority Number that's a non possibility. I'm fine sharing a suite with 1-3 other people just fine, but my question is, do I even have a chance at Landis anymore?

My four choices are Landis, Gilchrist, Broward, and Reynolds; is there any chance I can make into any of them?

How does the Honors program impact housing anyway? Is there a better chance of my getting into Landis since it's Honors-Exclusive? How many people make it into Honors anyway? (Not #-wise, but in general?)

Is there a way that I can specify that I'd be happy in a certain hall no matter what the configuration?

And finally, how does requesting a new dorm work? (Like if your unhappy with the accomidations, can you ask for a move?)
I don't want my obscenely high priority number to ness with my FSU experience, you know?

Thanks for your help
-Jonny

What’s your priority number?

I am also in the Honors and my priority number is 52xx. I am also wondering if I’ll get into Landis or Gilchrist.

Should I just forget about Landis and select Gilchrist as the first choice? Is it more likely for me to get placed there?

you should keep them your top 2 because their is only so many people they admit into the honors

With those numbers, anything goes. But an on campus experience really will be good as a freshman no matter where you stay.

I may be wrong, but I’m nearly sure if you’re honors, you are guaranteed a spot in Gilchrist or Landis. If you get placed in a dorm you don’t like, you can request a change, and changes are often granted.

Thing is, i’m going to fill out the agreement either today or tomorrow. (My parents need convincing that an apartment isn’t the way to go. They don’t realize the real estate market has changed in the last 10 years since my brother went to FSU).

You aren’t guaranteed a spot in Landis or Gilchrist just from being accepted into the program. I called and asked to make sure. There are more honors students than there are honors housing spots.

Oh, so you don’t have a priority number yet?

(This is how I understand housing to work… so if wrong please correct me!) The basic housing process is a computer run system. So if your choices are Landis, Gilchrist, Broward, Reynolds its going to start by trying to place you into your ideal Landis room, then Landis as a whole, then Gilchrist and so on. Once it runs out of choices then you are placed wherever there is room. So it’s already going to try to place you by hall first no matter what configuration you choose.

Since you are honors you still have a small chance at Landis and Gilchrist so keep them on your list. If you end up getting a dorm, however, it’s likely going to be kellum or smith. With that said I agree with sunnyflorida that on-campus experience as a freshman is worth it no matter what dorm you get.

Here is the reassignment page: [The Florida State University - University Housing](http://www.housing.fsu.edu/reassignments.html)

not all honors students will want to live in Landis. Give it a shot. Putting it as your #1 couldn’t hurt you, especially being in honors

Alright, I’ve gone ahead and applied. =D

7280

1: Landis
2: Gilchrist
3: Broward
4: Reynolds
Preference: Hall

Here’s hoping to living in Landis!

From my experience last year, my priority number was like 6400 (which is horrible.)
You’re more lucky to get the hall you want on your second round through, going with the reassignment requests. Same thing happened to me again this year, where i wasn’t given Ragans (the apartments) for my first choice next fall. After doing two reassignments (they reassigned to deviney, then i got into ragans), i finally got into the dorm of my choice. Im not for bursting anyone’s bubble, but landis in the 5000s+ is unlikely. REMEMBER: If you want a single dorm that isn’t bad, go for Deviney.

A quick question: do you really need Twin XL sheets? And how are the mattresses?

I’ve heard that you will need them, because with a mattress pad (most students get them because apparently the bed mattresses are really uncomfortable) on top if the regular mattress, regular sheets would be too tight! I know I’m getting a mattress pad for sure.

Dorms with built in beds are twin and the rest are twin XL.
