I would say UCLA, UPenn, and Rice are a bit of a stretch given the GPA and SAT. Your major seems a bit off from your accomplishments, so I would suggest applying as a major that sorta relates to your accomplishments (make sure it’s not impacted) to show that you’re really passionate about it. Then, if accepted, change majors when you can. People have told me this is worth a shot, but I would really talk about this with people and get their opinion. Good Luck.
Agree that UCLA is a stretch with your GPA and ACT score. Your EC’s are very good along with your leadership. UCLA like all UC’s are very GPA focused so having a 4.0+ GPA and around a 32 ACT would increase your chances.
Not sure if you are in-state or OOS, just be aware that the California UC’s do not offer financial aid to OOS students so plan to pay $60K/year to attend.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%
What is your UW GPA? What about rank?
I don’t think Rice or UPenn will happen with a 30 ACT
'Im not sure what my UW GPA is and in the in the top 10% (my school only tells us what decile we are in). I’m planning on retaking the ACT, so hopefully, I can increase it at least 2 points. Thank you for your insight.
I agree with everyone here, Rice is a high reach, especially if OOS.
