Just applied ED II- Questions

So guys I just applied ED II to Vassar and I was looking at the profiles of accepted ED I applicants. Most of them seem to have one sport or the other, but unfortunately I'm not really athletic so I didn't take part in inter-school sports (I participated in and won many competitions within school). I expressed an interest in their Quidditch team in my essay, but I'm worried. Will the lack of sports keep me out? I have amazing ECs, leadership and community service otherwise (like AMAZING)
Thank you :)

@12345n - Most athletes at Vassar are requested to apply ED I and so you get a MUCH higher percentage of athletes in that round. Do know that these athletes were left after a weeding out by the coaches. Just because you might be a good athlete doesn’t mean you can pursue that at Vassar. You still have to be a stellar student with very good test scores, tough HS class schedule, etc. Also, some just aren’t good enough at their sport to warrant a coach going to bat for them. For ED II you will be competing against far fewer athletes.

ECs are great, but they don’t compare to recruited athletes, because those athletes are going to COMPETE for Vassar. Unless your ECs include something you might actually DO at Vassar (and even then, it’s not the same as participating on a varsity athletic team), they aren’t really the same…important, but not nearly the same. The main things are: strength of classes you took in high school, GPA, test scores, and class ranking. If you did well on all of those things AND you have strong ECs, then that’s pretty good.

Vassar’s site says the typical student is in top 10% or so in their class, has an A- average and test scores that fall in these ranges: 2050-2240 for SAT and 30-33 for ACT (25-75% range for both). If you fall on the lower end or below the lower end of those score ranges or don’t quite have an A- average or are not close to top 10% in your class, then you likely don’t have too great of a chance. If you DO fall within that set of criteria, along with your “amazing” ECs, then you have a really good chance. Good luck!

EDIT: Just looked up your stats again on another thread, and they are very good…not a for sure thing, but very good. My guess is that you will be accepted, but you just never know.

12345n- I believe Vassar follows rules similar to the NESCAC colleges. Other than for football, which Vassar doesn’t field, the college is allowed 2 recruits per sport. Vassar has 27 varsity teams. That translates to 54 recruits. Not an insignificant number, however, it’s only ~ 20 percent of the ED admits. And, as Stepay pointed out, most of the recruits were admitted ED1

Hi @12345n – I was accepted to Vassar EDI and will be attending next fall, and I didn’t play a single sport in high school, either inter-school or within my HS… so no worries! :slight_smile:

@stepay @crewdad oh okay then I guess it’s a good thing I applied ED II :slight_smile: Thank you so much for answering

@nervoustudent Oh wow congratulations! That makes me feel a bit better haha. Would you mind telling me your stats?

OP, don’t worry about this. Athletes who are recruited are encouraged to apply in the ED pool, but that doesn’t mean that sports are necessary/critical to acceptance at all. As long as you have ECs you were really interested in, that is fine. Don’t worry about the fact that they may not be sports related.

@intparent oh alright haha. I guess I just panicked a bit because all their profiles had sports. Thank you :slight_smile:

It is easy to panic at this point in the college app process. :slight_smile: Just put together the strongest apps you can, print & proofread carefully, and submit on time.

Good luck to you 12345n!! D also plays no sports and will be applying regular decision.

@12345n thank you! my full stats are in the 2019 EDI results thread, but i had a 2300 SAT and 4.0 GPA. Best of luck to you :)

@nervoustudent aww man that’s so impressive :open_mouth: My stats aren’t that high :confused: I have a 2170 and a 3.9 GPA

@NEPatsGirl haha yayy :slight_smile: It is nice to have someone on the same boat :stuck_out_tongue: Hopefully, we’ll see each other at Vassar next fall. Good luck :slight_smile:

@intparent Haha thank you :slight_smile: I just sent the rest of my apps as well
