If you remember from earlier threads, I was thinking of applying (even though it was super late) because of issues with previous applications. (But Pitt has grown on me and I actually REALLY want to go now.)
Anyway, I just applied last night and put down "pre-med" as my intended major because that was the closest thing to public health, even though I don't plan on going to med school. I'm scared that I shouldn't have put that, because some schools make it harder to get in with certain majors than other majors. Is Pitt one of those schools? Such that putting down "pre-med" has put me in a more competitive category? Or will that have no effect on my application?
I'm freaking out...Pitt is my last chance.
Thanks for any insight!

It’s spring break so you might not get an answer - if you are worried, call up Admissions because you can just correct it before they make decisions, right? They won’t bite your head off, just pick up the phone!

That wasn’t my question - I don’t necessarily want to change my major. I just want to know whether choosing it put me in a bad position. And I would rather get answers from students and applicants than admissions at this point, because it never goes over well to call and ask “omg, is this going to look bad on my application?”

But you can ask admissions if your choice of major enters into their decisions and/or if there are limits on numbers of premeds per class. That is not an unintelligent question - and does not make you look bad - people ask these questions all the time, before applying, at info sessions, in person with deans. If you ask students, you might also get some opinions which might not be facts.

Sorry you are freaking out, I’m just trying to be helpful.

I agree with AmandaKayak. I have heard mostly favorable comments from people when they called admissions (OAFA). I even know someone who changed their mind about going to Pitt after the May 1 deadline. He had been accepted, decided to go to another school then decided Pitt would be a better fit. He called Pitt, they understood his situation and he’s now a happy Pitt Freshman. A phone call won’t hurt and can only help IMHO.

No i do not think it will influence your application. I applied to Pitt and I applied for engineering and then decided I wanted to go pre-med. Whenever I talked to them about it, they told me within the College of Arts and Sciences you can pretty much transfer from major to major with no problem. So I would believe it would have no influence.

OK, thanks guys! I did call admissions, but apparently they’re on spring break too -_-
I’ll try again later; meanwhile I’m hoping for the best.
