Just be honest...

Hey everyone, This is my first post on CC, but I have been lurking for more than a year now. With my junior year complete, I thought it would be the right time to finally narrow down to a few schools I should apply to.

I am looking at pretty much all of the University of California system, as well as, a few private schools which include Universtiy of the Pacific, as well as, St. Mary's College.

My Stats:

Weighted GPA 10-11 Grade: 3.67
SAT I: 1820
SAT IIs taken in US History, and Biology. I do not think I did to well on those.
ACT: Not Taken Yet

I plan on retaking the SAT I and ACT in the fall, and yes, I realize my GPA is extremely low.

EC's + Awards + Leadership:

secretary treasurer for the tock Market Analysis Club - 3 years
Volleyball - 3 years
Model UN Captain
Youth Action Council Volunteer
Summer Bio Technology Camp

NCS Scholar Athlete Award
Volleyball Coach's Award
Academic Achievement Award

I hold the title of "Manager" as the store I work at
1 year of leadeship at my high school
Most Improved Student (Freshman year)

I have taken three college courses at my local community college

My summer project includes starting up a Charity with Micro-financing by incorporating the school's Stock Market cub.
I am also going to be a basketball coach for 7th and 8th graders this fall through the city I live in.

There are some more random Ec's here and there, but I understand I fail to have anything that would wow an admissions officer.

The Schools I would liked to be chanced at are:

UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Santa Barbara
UC Santa Cruz
UC Merced
CSU San Diego
CSU Cal Poly
CSU Sonoma
University of The Pacific
St. Mary's University
Peperdine University
University of Oregon
University of Washington
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
University of Arizona
University of Miami

The list looks really random, but each one of those schools has an aspect which really appeals to me. Are there any other schools in California which fit my stats? Thank you for all of your help. I am looking forward to being an active member in the CC commmunity. Thank you and good luck!

I forgot to mention my intended major is Biology. My ultimate goal is to attend a school in California. Thank you again.

Pepperdine: Reach
UM: Match/high match ( get those SAT’s up!)
UC Davis-High Match
UC Irvine-match/High match
UC Santa Barbara- match

Thanks for the help thus far. With everyone having 4.2’s and 4.3’s (my best friend has a 5.0) a 3.67 certainly seems low to me. So even if I have a lower GPA, a high SAT score will essentially balance it out? Also how does a school like UC Merced/Santa Barbara/Santa Cruz compare to University of Washington or the Univerity of Minnesota? Am I really a reach for the University of California Merced? Should I be doing more things to bolster my EC’s? Posting on CC was certaily some what reassuring be I certainly have a long ways to go. Thank you for all of your help everyone. You people are great!

bump. Thank you everyone.

bump… anyone?

SAT’s. WORK ON YOUR SAT’S!!!

otherwise, you’re loooking good for all the colleges you listed there bud.
here’s what I can say about the californian public colleges:

ALL CSU’S: In.
UCSB:match
UCI: upper match
UCD: upper match
UCM: in
UCSC: in

now, work on your SAT’s. chop chop chop.

Thanks Lemon. I hear you about the SAT Scores. I am planning on studying the Blue College Board book for the summer, as there is no money for classes right now. If I scored in the 2100 range, would my chances for Davis, Irvine significantly improve? Thanks for all your help everyone.

Slight reach for Umiami.

So I got my subject scores back, and I didnt do to hot, I recieved a 570 in Biology, and a 540 in US history. Is this going to hinder my chances of getting into a school such as UCSC, or Cal Poly SLO? Thanks eveyone for your help.

anyone…?

You would have a much better chance if you could bring your SAT up to around 195-200.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/735431-chances-washu-cornell-penn.html

Are the loe SAT II’s going to kill my grade, I can definetly bring my SAT I score up to about 2000. Should I worry about SAT I’s or should I focus on bring my 570 BIO and 540 History up?

1 priority: the SAT I’s. You might want to try the ACT as well.

The Sat II’s you took I think are more than adequate for cal poly SLOB or UCSC. But, for the upper UC’s, i’d try to bring them up to at least a 600. (hey! at least those SAT ii’s you took are simply just regurgitating your knowledge. )

LEMON

Thank you Lemon. My plans include taking studying for the ACT and SAT over the summer. I am going to take the September ACT, the SAT I in October, and the SAT II in November. Does anyone know if the November SAT results will be back before the UC Application is due? I am starting to take notice to UCSC’s biomolecular engineering program, yet my first choice is still Davis. Thank you for your help.
