Just booked flights and hotel for Honors Day!

The big lot across the street is owned by UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) and is for their employees (and probably some of the university’s as well). FYI, it used to be the site of the [Syria Mosque](SyriaChandelier2 | Distant view of the chadelier. The Mosque… | Flickr) until about 1991 or 92. That was a very controversial demolition.

The staff was very quick to send out the Honors Day package by mail. Hope they’re that quick on scholarships too!

We recently stayed at this holiday inn and the parking charge was $20 day. Upon check-in, they gave us one free day of parking for being members of the Priority Club.
The hotel parking is very convenient in the UPMC parking garage right across the street. No extra charge for going in and out during the day.

My D is a freshman at Pitt and we have stayed at quite a few hotels. There is a brand new Marriott called SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh Bakery Square and it is much more economical than the Holiday Inn near Alumni HalI. The parking was free when we stayed. There is a Public parking garage across from Forbes Hall that charges $5 a day on weekends for when you arrive on campus for the activities. You get to see quite a bit of Forbes Avenue (which I refer to as Pitt’s Main Street)…There is a Panera’s, University clothing store, restaurants, etc on the walk to campus. Thought this input might be helpful if you can change reservations or for future stays.

We are booked in the Bakery Square hotel that you mentioned for graduation. Everything else was filled. I’m excited to be staying there. However, it is a distance from the school. The Holiday Inn is right on campus. You can park the car for the day and walk the rest of the time. To me there is no comparison. Just my opinion.

Bakery Square isn’t too far from campus – you could even take a PAT bus since its just down 5th Avenue so you could begin learning the free-with-student-id bus system.

Most students here aren’t really aware of Bakery Square because its just a little further than their consciousness. It houses Google’s new offices and actually is kind of hip. Most people don’t know that there’s an Anthropologie there.
