Just contacted for interview--meaning?

I never received an interview and I was just contacted by an alumnus asking to meet this week. I submitted my application close to the deadline. Is it a good sign to have an interview this late, or is it common practice?

Sent from my SGH-T679 using CC

The late request could have a variety of reasons. From the innocuous (interviewer forgot) to the potentially positive (Yale saw no interview report submitted earlier but wants one b/c it’s interested). Nothing has anything to do with your submission date, however.

And it’s not common practice. Good luck

Last year my son got a very late interview request…in fact he had forgotten he didn’t interview with Yale…because it was so late he was really relaxed (thought he didn’t want to go to Yale and follow dad)…so good luck and no matter what it means feel confident and relaxed and be yourself!

sarafina, was your son accepted?

I don’t want to jinx or anything, but I recall a Yale interviewer saying (on one of those interview FAQs) that s/he too had to randomly interview someone rather late in the game - it was a dead giveaway that admissions had admitted said interviewee and wanted to ensure s/he got an interview.

Just don’t completely screw it up - things look good!

honorlions: If I may disagree. An alumna would not be told of an impending admit decision even if she were asked to specifically interview someone past the normal deadline. Logic would dictate that Yale is still interested in the person but she, in no way, could definitively say the student was about to receive an offer. Nor would Yale tell her so. It’s not a dead giveaway – IMHO.

Yale has requested a late interview to learn more confirmatory information – I know that to be true. But if it was truly decided, they would not specifically direct the alum to conduct the interview.

I think it’s a good sign. My daughter was contacted much, much later than her friends for an interview in late February. I do think she was far more relaxed & confident because she had already received a couple of acceptances and a likely letter from UPenn. Ends up she was the only student from her school that received an acceptance to Yale on March 31st. I do suspect it means admissions is seriously considering you. Wishing you good luck!

Well, my interview was on feb 25th, but I wouldn’t expect an acceptance (sub-par stats, middle eastern/white, international - Canada)

Cof2013…yes, my son was accepted at Yale and fell in love with it during BullDog Days, much to our (and his) surprise…turning down 3 other Ivy acceptances and more…so you never know why the interviews are late…perhaps it means they like what they see and want to further check you out…just be confident and relaxed…you know by now how to ace an interview and it will probably be your best…and know that this time next year you will be happy wherever you land! All the best!

comments about the interview were for mediocrity02…

Thank you all for your feedback! I really appreciate it. I have my interview tomorrow and I’m very excited!

mediocrity02…how did your interview go? Good luck with admissions!

sarafina, the interview was wonderful! He said that I would be a perfect fit for Yale. I’m crossing my fingers for good news on March 28, but no worries whatever ends up happening!
