I have seen the following question asked many times on this forum and I have been unable to find a clear answer to it. What is the average GPA and ACT/SAT of an in state accepted applicant and an in state enrolled applicant. I am curious to find out the disparity between the 25%-75% ACT/SAT brackets for in state vs. OOS.

BMP please

these stats aren't published which is why no one can give you an answer

I thought that might be the reason but I was not sure.

I would guess the instate kids's scores are more varied than the out of state kids as the state has a mandate to its' own citizens. In other words, there are probably some instate kids there with scores in the 1200's but they also probably have very good GPA's and EC's to make up for a lower SAT score. Most kids instate probably have at least in the 1300's.There are also in state kids there with very high SAT's that would be competitive at many top schools. The out of state kids there probably are more mostly high SAT ( 1350-1400 +) plus high GPA. My own instate kid is there currently with 1480 SAT and 4.0 + GPA but others in his high school who are there had scores more in the 1300's. GPA's were all very good though. All of this is anecdotal and just a guess as I also don't know of anywhere an exact breakdown has been published.

Friends in New York have a son who applied ED for 2007, last year ED was available. He did not get in and is now at Cornell so I do know it can be tough for out of state kids. It is also very tough these days for instate kids but there seems to be a little more leeway with scores for instate kids (as I believe there should be) so that the instate percentage can be maintained. Instate kids in general still seem to need great GPA' s and EC's to be competitive.
