Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if it is possible to apply as a transfer student to many schools ( 5+) just as one would normally apply for regular freshman admission?
- ALso, is there a best time to apply for a transfer to a school? for instance, I have that it is better to wait for at least a year.

Thank you

Oh, one last thing:
I am currently a freshman student at FSU in my second semester. My GPA is 3.9 (will probably increase by the end of this semester) and HS SAT score is 1355. Also, i am in the honors program and can get pretty good recommendations. So, assuming that I write convinving essays, can anyone rank my chances of getting accepted as a transfer to the following universities( reach, safety, match, unlikely, etc...)?

It is possible, but I found the transfer application process to be much more daunting than the freshman one. Unlike the freshman process, you'll be alone on this (no hundreds of peers doing the same thing and teachers that understand), meanwhile the kids and profs at your current school are making you feel guilty and foolish for wanting to leave.

I believe that colleges, as well, expect a more in depth application from their transfer applicants in light of the fact that most do not have an extraneous laundry-list of schools to consider.

If you've done well in high school, then applying for sophomore transfer isn't a bad idea. However, keep in mind that you probably won't want to go through the tranfer process two years in a row; so if you don't think your chances at certain schools are realistic in the first year, you might want to concentrate your energy into the three semesters ahead of you before applying.

Sorry, I forgot to list the schools I was intending to transfer to:

Ohio State University

Rice University

University of Texas - at austin

NYU

Stony Brook University

University of Virgina

Univerisity of Miami

Boston University

University of Michigan-ann A.

UC Davis

University of georgia

Janel89, thank you for the helpful response.

By the way, my high school GPA was 93.2/100 ( mys school did not use the GPA system).

My parents are moving to texas, so schools there are a priority. However, I am intersted in applying to all others just because I did not get a chance to apply for them for freshman year during my senior year in HS( mostly because the deadlines had passed) and because of certain programs offered at those schools.

assuming that you meant 1355 as in the old scoring system...with the gpa you have at fsu, transfering shouldnt be a problem. I did that this year, I applied to 7 schools for transfer. I've heard from 3, got into 2 of them (NYU and UNC, rejected from Brown). It definitely is much ****tier than the freshman process, but if you really aren't happy there then don't stay! With those stats those schools shouldn't be too out of reach, depending on which programs you are applying for (i.e. Stern at NYU is close to impossible to get into as a transfer). From what I have seen, public schools are much easier to get into as a transfer.

Well, yeah the score that I posted was merely an opproximation. I coudn't remember my exact score, but is either 1350 or 1360.
- gonsenheim that reply was really helpful.
- WHich school did you tranfer from?
-And can anyone else comment on my situation?

Ohio State is very easy
UT Austin- I got in with 3.3 (out of state, very lucky considering the competition)
Still waiting for BU and a number of extreme reach schools.
So far, UW-Madison is the best choice among the 10 other schools I have applied.

I transfered from the University of San Diego...I think your toughest bets will be at NYU (only if you are applying for Stern), Rice, and UMich...other than that I wouldn't worry too much about it. Don't let anything stop you from applying to all of those schools. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Thank you very much gonsenheim... I really should have applied to those schools when I was a senior ( I ONLY APPLIED TO TWO SCHOOLS THEN!!!!! because I underestimated my chances of getting accepted to other universities).
- Now I can guarantee you that I will apply to all the schools that I have in mind.

One more thing, would it be strange from me to ask the staff at FSU to send my transcript to all those colleges ? Like janel89 mentioned, will the school try to inquire about my situation or will they not care about my intentions?

Thank you for the help everyone. Oh, and sunada777, may I ask what your SAT score was when you applied to UT-austin? ANd was that 3.3 GPA from your high school or from a college?

Ya don't worry about the transcript things. If you aren't happy there than you aren't happy there. The last thing you need to worry about is hurting someone's feelings at your current school.

I'm leaving ucsd because I went to high school in san diego, and I need a change of scenery. Also UC schools put all of their emphasis on graduate students. Most of my classes were taught by TAs. I would just feel more comfortable at a private university.

I know UMich will be competitive because they have started reducing the number of freshman and their class size (because they admitted too many freshman for the class of '08 and '09)
