Does anyone ever feel like they get homework, and then they just don't want to do it because it's so generic and unappealing?
If so, how do you combat this feeling to get your work done quickly while making it well done?

Yes.

I don't do the offending homework. (The only class where this really happens is Spanish III, and the homework in that class is busywork that makes up an insignificant portion of the grade, though, so I can afford not to do it.)

Fine. Don't do it, and accept the consequences, which could be not at all to your liking. Just don't complain, at that point, about low grades, mediocre rec letters from your teachers, and college rejections. Not that all that will come from not doing one or two homework assignments, but your attitude, at the moment, is pretty lousy. You need to do the work and if you don't like it, well, that's just tough...

Yeah man, I feel the same way all the time.

I usually just do it. It's not fun to look forward to, but once you actually get working on it, it's really not that bad. Turn on some music.

YES.And I loathe busy work with a passion.

yea to the first question and the second one..i just do it

I totally agree with WishWash. Listen to some music, maybe pop in a DVD for some background noise if you study well in that kind of environment. Homework, especially busy work, sucks, but doing it will be worth it. Trust this.

Ive been doing homework for the last 2-3 days cause i procrastinated and had fun the rest of break =/

Try AP euro homework... I find the class pointless... who cares about history? (Yes I know how ignorant this sounds)

At least AP bio is somewhat interesting =/

I wish I could listen to music and read pages and pages of a text book for euro but then i can't concentrate =/

Busy work is absolutely despicable. Really. It's all I get in my history class also. I've never had real work in that class. The closest thing is a project.

As for the OP's question, ya, I feel like that all the time, and I either just don't do it (when it won't effect), or I get over it and do it.

I am going on my fifth day of straight homework and I am about to die. It was probably only three days worth in reality, but I get way too distracted. Assigning homework over break is completely dumb. I have written nine essays so far, three for scholarships, and have one more to do. I thought I signed up for AP classes, not MH (more homework) classes.

Not really, because most of my teachers don't really assign that much homework anymore. They assign reading, and one does have us do study guides or notes to prove we read it (which I like), but the others just don't assign anything really. I don't do reading in some classes because I know I can ace tests without it.
Most of my teachers who give actual assignments will still give a student who doesn't do homework a good grade if they know that the student really doesn't need too. I miss tests in my French class and I never retake them but still get 100% because my teacher knows I don't need them.

I've been doing homework for the last 12 years. I'm tired of it. Only 6 more months!

Yo I think I've been doing homework every day of break. It sucks :(

i loved my AP US class last year because the teacher never game nay homework beyond reading. He said that since we were responsible and smart enough to take APs, we should be responsible enough to learn from the book. He would always have his lessons during class so we didn't just learn everything from the book. But i really liked it. It was totally up to us how we learned. So if we didn't read one night and we had a write the next day....we were kinda screwed but at least there was no annoying busy work.
it ended up being one of my favorite classes because the teacher treated us more like college students and didnt make us do lots of stupid time consuming worksheets and whatnot

zfox001- That is exactly how my AP Gov class is this year. I love it because there is a lot more time for discussion in class and I feel that I am learning more than just the facts.

My APUSH class was the exact opposite. We had a ton of busy work, at least 1.5 hours a night. The teacher was really dumb, her lessons were just powerpoints she got from another teacher and if you asked her a question she would just go read a direct statement from the book.

wow man he's just trying to get advice...

I struggled with this for a very long time. It was hard to motivate myself to do such meaningless work! I love to learn but most of my homework wasn't about learning it was about making sure everyone passed even if they didn't know or understand the concept. I didn't feel obliged to advocate that type of system so I avoided work. At times I would turn in homework that outlined how horrible I thought the assignment was. I usually received B grades on those because my teachers understood that even though I hated busy work I was very involved in the discussions. So I turned in something so that they could give me even a mediocre grade. However, that didn't solve my problem either because you can't rely on someone else to "understand" you, you have to be proactive in all of your life so I searched for motivation. What I came to tell myself was simple, I said "If I don't do this, then I'll be limiting myself to ______." It's like admitting that it IS just a hoop to jump through but if you don't do it you won't be in an advantageous position next time to do something you really love.

Trust me, this feeling stays with you until your dying day. There will be days at work where you just want to do something creative and new but before you can do that you have to do what is practical first. I think it's great that you are trying to control that feeling, it'll serve you well in the future.

Thanks for all your posts guys! ^Luke thanks for that man, that was helpful, and well written. I'm definitely going to refer to this when I need advice or motivation. Once again, thanks Luke!
