Just for fun...,overheard on a college tour

Oh okay. So “cringeworthy and awkward” is better than funny? It’s actually worse. And very common. Only making a point, as it made me sad for the young woman despite it being no big deal to many. One that everyone is free to ignore. Wasn’t looking for a full derailment.

Also, I was talking about the theme of the thread as humorous and funny.

I purposely did not tag the poster or exact post. It was not a knock on that person. It’s common and I have been guilty as charged myself. I want to be better.

In society, body shaming is a problem for many and very hurtful. Why should we care what a woman looks like physically in relation to her job performance , isn’t that a current positive trend in society? Whether it be a kid working as a guide or a professional in an office ?

If the following comments had been made or happened do you think would have aroused some questions - what do you think?

A student guide or panel asks for visitors to use their correct pronoun / “cringeworthy and awkward”.

A women answers that she loves her school because it allows her to be open as a lesbian. “Cringeworthy and Awkward”

Oprah says I love pizza. “Cringeworthy and Awkward”.

Or if your famous it’s ok to be higher on the BMI charts?

And so on.

All of these would be ok?

Why is it awkward that a plus size student says she likes the dining options?

Because we judge. A bit of contempt before examination.

No I’m not being too sensitive. I’m being sensitive to another human being, and personally think it’s a whole lot nicer the less we judge.

We can move on. I made my point.

Ok. Back to a funny college tour story.

Walking to the info session at Harvard. Approach the John Harvard statue (I know it’s not actually him but a representation)

A large group standing around it as usual.

A mom standing in front of us tells her daughter to rub his foot for good luck like the line of other people. Response was memorable and funny to me.

“No way, look at everyone touch it. No school is worth getting a disease. “
