Just for fun...what woman did you write about?

Tricia Helfer because is astoundingly hot

I’m really enjoying this thread. Franklin, Mitchell, and Cassatt are amazing women as I’m sure are the rest, I just know more about those three.

I think that when Barnard changes this essay question it would be awesome for someone go through all the essays and choose the best ones to anthologize online. It’d be a great resource for future Barnard students to learn more about the school and all these women.

Irene Adler from A Scandal in Bohemia of the Sherlock Holmes series  she is brilliant

HeartSet- I also wrote about Professor McGonagall :). Harry Potter fans represent!

I’m surprised no one said Hermione yet. Too obvious?

Hehe. Harry Potter fans unite!
Someone, somewhere must have done Hermione. :)

^Someone other than Ron? ;D

omg. Poor choice of words on my part. Hehe. XD

hahahaha. that was cute :)

I wrote about anandi bai joshi…the first woman to become a doctor from india. I wrote about the journey she had to take…how the soceity hated her for wanting to become a doctor and going to america by herself (no colleges for women in india at the time) and how when she finally got her PhD and came back to india, she died within weeks. a really sad but inspiring story

Wrote about Carol Burnett!

I wrote about Susan Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia and how it didn’t seem fair to me that she was denied joining her brothers and sister because they say that she cared only for boys and nylons and lipstick. No woman is that uncomplicated. :)

And wow! Everyone wrote about such original and beautiful people! Joss Whedon definitely deserves some love for giving us such role models. Now that Meanderer mentioned him, I can’t help but keep slapping myself for not even thinking about writing some love for Zoe or Kaylee.

I wrote about Ursula Burns. She’s the first African-American woman to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company. She was raised in the housing projects around where my elementary school was. I think it’s a huge accomplishment for her to go from being from around that neighborhood to becoming the CEO of Xerox.

This thread is so amazing to read! The anthology idea is great - I hope the administration stalks CC as much as we do :)

@opensesame11… I think they do, actually! They are very attentive of their email and of their facebook page. I’m pretty sure they knew we “hacked” the admissions system through the code on the website. I don’t think it’s coincidence that we can no longer do this.

I’m reading this whole thread out loud to my mom! She was a big advocate of Barnard and loves seeing strong women. It’s interesting that these are women that I would’ve never thought of! (besides Harry Potter characters! yes, I avoided Hermione like the plague, but I’m sure someone wrote about her. I definitely wanted to!)

I wrote about Kathryn Bigelow (first woman to win an oscar for best director). WOW guys, I’m soooo super nervous. Barnard is my first choice, but I have gotten rather suprising results across the board from my schools. Barnard is the only one i have left to hear from. I got waitlisted at my biggest reach, Northwestern, but waitlisted at Vassar and BC (two of my targets). I got into NYU and all my safeties. hmmmmm… nervous.

I wrote about Sarah Palin!

nice one, parental unit 3!

I wrote about Chita Rivera. Needless to say, I love all things theatre. :)

(pretty jittery about the admission decisions!)

Oho, I spy a couple musical theater lovers. I had played with the idea of writing about the Witch from Into the Woods as well other theater greats (:.

What other women did you girls think, but didn’t write, about?

I wrote about Barbara McClintock- she discovered transposons, or DNA that “jumps” around the genome.
