I’m not concerned about the SATs because I honestly think my poor score of 670 on the Math section was a freak case (not to brag, but I’ve maintained a solid A in all my math classes, and am taking BC calc AP next year)

I’ve also heard that almost everyone does better their second time taking the SAT because they are now used to it. Therefore, I consider a 2190 with a 740 in reading and 780 in writing a very solid start.

Hey evilspartan92, thanks for chancing me; I appreciate it! I think that you will be fine with your SAT scores (I have experienced freak Math scores in past) when you retake it-you have a solid overall score! Good luck on the second time!

"i think someone just wanted to go fishing for compliments…=lame… "

Was that comment directed at me? And if so what do you mean by it? I am not fishing for compliments, and even if I was, I wouldn’t be having much luck as about half these comments are critical and negative.

Okay…may i just say a few things
first of all, staying after school until 9 pm for drama isn’t that huge of a deal…
during our tech week, im an s/m and normally stay until at least midnight or 1 in the morning…staying late doesn’t make drama your passion…the way you feel about it makes it your passion

second-you WON"T be eligible for NMS…you got a 211 in Massachusetss…the last few years cutoffs have been between a 221 and a 224…you’ll be commended…but nothing more

oh, and although staying until 9 (it’s against our school policy to stay past 10 PM) may not show my passion, I still believe it shows dedication. I mean, no one is forcing me to do drama, and I realize the commitments involved.

Contrary to rocket6louise, I think your Eagle Scout achievement can be that potential hook. It encompasses a variety of aspects including leadership and a passion, which, if correctly tied in with your other interests, could be an excellent essay topic and really boost your chances at the top colleges you are looking at.

Congratulations again on all your hard work! I am an Eagle Scout myself and it really has been a fulfilling journey!

sorry…
i didn’t realize you were an eagle scout
that will def help…
and i do admit that staying til 9 is commitment, but i just want to warn you that it is not above or beyond what most do…

but seriously, best of luck
i wouldn’t try a shot in the dark that is top school admissions

well, I just visited Bowdoin College, and absolutely loved it. So, what I am going to try to do for Bowdoin and Dartmouth (and possibly Middlebury)- two (or three) very “green,” outdoorsy, hike-in-the-woods types of colleges is play on my experiences as a Eagle Scout because many qualities of Boy Scouts (conservation, hiking, canoeing, community service, etc.) play perfectly into the mind-set of the aforementioned colleges.

As for Harvard (if I still think I have any shot after taking SATs again and SAT IIs and my AP), I might play the fact that I have grown up loving Boston and that the fact that Harvard is situated right next to Boston is a something that is really appealing to me.

As of now, the colleges I will definitely be applying to are:
-Dartmouth (probably will be ED if Harvard isn’t)
-Bowdoin
-UMass Amherst Honors Program (safety)

Other ideas:
-Harvard (if my SATs are 2250+ and I feel my essays are knock-outs)
-Brown
-Middlebury (this was my dad’s fav, I liked it, but not as much as Dartmouth/Bowdoin)
-Princeton/UPenn (will be visiting them this summer, probably won’t apply unless I love either of them)
-Colgate/Cornell (visiting them later this year…again, won’t apply to them unless I love either of them)
-Boston College (any shot to get into their honors program?)

I still have to visit:
-Harvard
-Tufts
-Williams
-Colgate
-Cornell
-BC
-BU (idk if I will or not)
-Princeton
-UPenn

1) I have been elected Vice-President of my school’s National Honor Society (aka leadership position)

2) There is a possibility that I may do my summer internship at Harvard Medical School. I don’t know what this will entail (I am hoping research), but if I had the chance to form any kinds of connections at Harvard, all the better…

seriously im jealous you will definitely get into one of those colleges, i wish i could have scored that high on my SATs but i didnt and if you score high on your ACT then you can pretty much pick a college and they will take you!
good luck :)
