Just Found the MAGIC FORMULA (I hope)!!!

After spending countless hours trying to get my D's supplement loaded to no avail, I just tried something that worked immediately!

I downloaded the most current version of Acrobat Reader (11.0.4) on my mac . I then took my daughter's Word doc & saved it again as a pdf. Next, I went to the Common App page via Firefox. I went to the "upload pdf" Writing Supplement prompt, uploaded the new pdf & immediately got a pop-up window asking if the document looked the way I wanted it (before, I ALWAYS got the 1-hour spinning death wheel). It looked good, so I clicked yes & was able to submit the writing supplement & got an instant confirmation!!!

My mac OS is 10.8.5.

Hopefully, this helps others as this has been a nightmare experience to this point for many of us.

Bigdad,

Is this about the main essay for the common app? Is there a way to upload a pdf for the essay directly into the common app? Or is this for a specific college’s supplementary essay?

We’re having a devil of a time getting the essay to format correctly. Have been trying using our desktop PC. Notepad doesn’t help. May have to try my son’s MAC laptop.

Thanks again.

This is nuts. OK, ignore the prior comment. After trial and error – basically trying every permutation of text editor and web browser – we somehow have made it work. But thanks again for sharing helpful info and tips!!
