Just glace quickly at my GPA anxiety

I'm currently a junior at a pubilc high school. I'm in the top 10% of my class, but have a 3.7 unweighted - I'm taking 3 AP classes but I don't know what the weighted score is...

Everyone applying for Ivies seems to have a 4.0 Unweighted, and it's making me panic. I want to go to UChicago - not an ivy, but very selective - and I'm thinking of applying to Ivies. I think I'm safe with my extra-curriculars, among other things I'm an instructor....editor of the paper...steady job...few academic honors but they're there...scholarship to Japan for an intensive language program...etc...That's covered..I think.

Should I have hope for these schools with my current GPA? I'm still trying to pull my GPA up, so don't worry about crushing my spirit. I'll apply to my dream schools no matter what. Be brutual and honest.

A 3.7 seriously isn't that bad, and your rank is fine - as long as everything else in your application (SATs, essay, recommendations, courseload, ECs, etc.) is strong, you should have a decent shot.

At the University of Chicago especially, your GPA doesn't matter as much as the rigor of your classes and your essays. Or at least I hope so - I applied this year with a 3.4 uw.

Yes - and UChic is a very self selective group. Your stats should be alright for it. I have a friend who has a lower GPA, but with solid test scores and alright everything else. He got in EA.

IMO...focus on what you can control. You have done well to be in the top 10%, and may even move up depending on how well you do in your AP classes. Your AP scores can also give you clout. Your transript most likely will show an upward trend-also an important element. Do well on your ACT or SAT exams-and you may very well surprise even yourself by the number of schools that offer you acceptances. Good Luck!

UChicago puts little faith in GPA. I applied early with a 3.75 u/w with like 4 honors classes per year and a couple classes at an ivy league college. Also has a 2190 SAT. Was deferred, but tons of people with lower stats than me got in. one had a 3.0 and one had a 3.3 something like that. They put more stock in your essays and what picture your application paints of you.
