Basically this thread is about getting that C changed.

I have no idea what happened. I had a 88% (roughly) with all the extra credit, tests, and homework. Then the final was worth 37% (around there) of the grade. I really didn't study as hard as I should have. (If any of you remember me, I am the guy who already took Calculus at high school, which counted towards CSUF credit.) Well obviously I bombed the test considering I got a C. After I took the test. Best case scenario, assuming he bought into a bunch of stuff, I think my highest possible grade on the final was a 75% (I left a bunch blank). I didn't think I had gotten lower than a 50% however. I don't have a calculator at hand, but I think around a 65% to get a legit B- in the class. Supposedly there is a curve for the entire class. He never explained the curve clearly, but I believe it was for each test. All in all I believe I didn't do a 65% on the final, but I was close to it. So I think my final grade was around the 76%-79% range without a curve. Since his curve was so weird I have no idea if the curve would even boost me.

How do I go about asking if he can change my grade. I realize I don't deserve it, but this is my first time doing a thing like this and I would appreciate any help. I was thinking of telling him that I was retaking the class and that I am an Engineering major.

Well the only thing you can do is ask him what you got on the test. When you find out what you got on the test then figure out if you should even bother asking him to change the grade. Keep in mind that it is pretty rare for a prof to change a grade and telling him you are going to retake the class and that you need a better grade because you are an engineering student should not make him change the grade. If you have real evidence that you deserve that grade then ask him if you can discuss a grade change.

What's your school's policy in changing grades?
Can you ask your professor to show you a computation of how you got a "C"?

Well you are a guy so there is not much you can do :) joking

You need to know exactly what you got on the final and what mistakes you made, and you need to actually have him review how it was graded, and how the curve works.

Also, you need to know What type of C you got. It is hard to go up 5% on a grade, but if you got something like a 78% you might be able to boost your grade by reviewing the final with him and trying to get more partial credit or things of that nature.

How can you "realize you don't deserve it" yet proceed to beg for it? Just take it like man. You reap what you sow. I got an 89% in a tough biology class not because of its harsh demands but because I should have studied harder for the final.

It's called integrity, and if you're an engineer, you're gonna need it.

All that you can do that's legit would be to calculate all of your points and make sure there are no errors.

The teacher seemed pretty nice, I think I heard him talking to another student about changing his grade during one of our breaks...
I am sure when I ask him, he'll let me see everything about how my grade broke down.

In the first post, this may have been misunderstood, but this class was my retake of calculus from (high school/CSUF credit).

Regardless of what it was,you clearly should take it again if you want to go into your intended major.

You do realize that retaking and getting a C clearly implies you have some deficiencies in the subject and when your intended major from what i recall is engineering and when you had hopes of transferring in 1 year- you better either get your stuff together or re think your plan- regardless of wheather your grade gets changed or not, the issue is your understanding of the subject that is crucial to any and all future work in your major.
