Boston University just called me and asked if I had any questions. I’ve never called them before and e-mailed them once and already gotten a reply for that e-mail a loooong while back. They said I was one of their strongest applicants too. Does this actually mean anything or do they tell everyone this? XD

They haven't called me at all, and my SATs are well into the top quartile.

So no, they don't do this to everyone (how could they, with like 35,000 applicants). You actually are one of the strongest applicants.

See, if my SAT scores are anything to go by, I'm average with an 1850. I always felt it was the weakest point in my application. However, everything else I felt was really good. So maybe my SAT scores didn't bring me down as much as I thought. ^_^''

hmm that's weird.. I've never heard of anything like this.

So maybe the person was just being nice?

Wait a sec---I got phone calls from some colleges about questions. They called to ask whether I had something to clarify, etc. Do they do this typically with everyone or would you say just some? Thanks guys. Just curious.

All I can say is that BU doesn't do it with everyone, but it wasn't like some sort of secret test. They're basically just being nice. Can't speak for other schools though, I dunno if they do it for everyone.

That is awesome, Nickel Xenon! Congratulations!

Are you applying to these schools? What do they say?

I got the phone call too. They asked if I had any questions, particularly about student life which was weird, I didn't, then they said to get in contact if I did. The only other school that's done this to me so far was Emerson back in December and that was after I was admitted to their Honors Program.

It's strange, offering to answer questions about student life when I'm not even a student yet.

My SATs aren't too great either, 2020...maybe it was our essays? I applied for the film major, btw.

Yeah, I found it weird too. All I asked was about financial aid. They asked me the same thing too. I did like my essay a lot and it got me a 97% in English even though the teacher doesn't hand out As easly. xD Maybe it was the essay then. I dunno. I was just wondering if anyone else had gotten the call since I found it a little odd.

did the person calling sound younger? just about everybody working the phones in admissions is just a student either volunteering or working part time. In that case they have nothing to do with your specific applications so it might have been more of a "keep us in mind"-type thing ya know?

Hey, congrats. My kiddo (now a BU freshman) got a call like that last year around this time now that I think about it. If I remember correctly, they brought up his "Why B.U." essay. Personally, I think it was to feel out how serious he was about BU prior to offering him a merit scholarship. (He became VERY serious after receiving the 1/2 tuition scholarship! LOL!!!) So if this is why they are calling you, way to go!

She was younger and said she worked in the office, but the fact she said I was one of the "strongest candidates," just kind of stuck out to me. Or do they tell everyone this? ^_^''

I guess its possible but an 1850 SAT is not near the strongest applicants BU attracts no matter how good an essay or whatever else

Please, can everyone try to remember that BU looks at the entire picture, your SAT score is just a small part of your entire application. The one number does not tell you the strength of someones application.

that is true I've spoken to that specifically a number of times, but you can't seriously believe that an 1850 would be among the strongest applications REGARDLESS of other credentials. it just simply wouldn't accurately reflect the strength of the applicant pool at BU

I got a call tonight from BU. It was exactly as the original post described. I asked when I would find out about acceptance or not and she told me not to worry, that I was getting the call because I was an extremely strong candidate. I really enjoyed talking with her - she was a student. So...I think it was very positive. My scores are 2100 SAT and 33ACT - for those of you who are wondering.

I should have asked about acceptance. xD Talking on the phone makes me nervous and all I could think of was asking about financial aid.

Same...I totally blanked. I hate when they call like that, it's so unnerving and I have no time to prepare, especially when my dad doesn't tell me it's a college that it's a college calling and basically just chucks the phone in my general direction. Thanks for the heads up DAD. :P
