Just got a large envelope out of the mail -

W&M Admin … I really appreciate the reply, but as you surmised, according to FAFSA and CSS analysis, we are not eligible for any kind of FA. During these challenging economic times, grabbing the opportunity to allow my D to graduate debt free from a fine University outweighs her desire to attend W&M at OOS cost. Again, this is nothing against W&M specifically, because she faces the same issues at Michigan, UVA, and even U of I, which is our state flagship school. Many of the “privates” and some of the “NMF publics” are able to offer merit aid that makes them very attractive. This is just the way the process work, and we understand that. Philosophically, my point stands, the OOS boost in tuition at many public schools makes it virtually impossible to compete against the merit offers coming from the similarly ranked privates … which is a shame I think. Some schools, in lieu merit aid per se, waive OOS costs as an alternative. Every institution does it differently. And obviously, the highly ranked schools can be more “selective” in what they feel they “need” to do to attract OOS students. In our particular case, which I would believe is not so dissimilar to others out there … the merit awards are hard to pass up. Thanks again for your response and congrats to everyone fortunate enough to have been invited to attend W&M! :-)

Just got my envelope and Monroe Scholar notification today, OOS  I love W&M and am really excited, but I don’t know if my family can afford it as we’re probably not going to get very much in the need-based department…

stygldbby, what part of the country are you from?

Dad2ILD, certainly understand your position and we deeply regret that we do not have the scholarship funds that many other private schools do. While our OOS tuition is high, we do hope it’s not cost prohibitive as it’s still quite a bit cheaper than many peer institutions but likely not as cheap as those who have generous scholarship offers elsewhere.

Congrats stygldbby!

Have any other accepted students tried to log-in with the user ID/PW? My son received an email about financial aid and was told to log-in to see results. He tried using the ID/PW on the acceptance letter, but it doesn’t work. Is there another ID/PW? He’s going to call but it Friday afternoon and he’s also a procrastinator. Any help would be appreciated.

(He’s sent an email, but if anyone knows what he’s doing wrong, please let us know)

No my D couldn’t login either she mentioned it to me but I have forgotten to call all week. She is in school when they are open.

I will try to figure it out next week I guess.

Perhaps you have to login by selecting “activate my new account” on this page:
https://web.wm.edu/it/changepassword/?svr=www</a></p>

It just worked for me. You had to activate the account but besides from that it was pretty simple.

Disable pop-ups, maybe? That seems to help with various logins.

Got an email with my FinAid information in it today, and all I can say to future applicants: if you can do the FAFSA, do it. You’ll never know what you’ll get. I was pleasantly surprised at how much of my aid was not loans but rather grants and work study, it is not a huge dent in the tuition but it was more than I expected and is making W&M look even more financially attractive. I’m finalizing my plans for Admitted Students weekend tomorrow and have another window open looking W&M apparel; I still have five more schools to hear back from, but I think I know which school my heart’s at :)

Thanks halloimzack! The email sent him straight to the login page and he didn’t realize there was another step to the process! Now that he re-read the welcome package, there was an insert about activating the account, but he didn’t see that until you told us about it.

That is great bandgeek. Are you IS or OOS?

Congrats to bandgeek on the FinAid. Hope others are getting good news on that front as well.

I’ll give you a tip on lodging–if you will have a vehicle. It’s about 2 1/4 miles from campus. Check out this link:

[Williamsburg VA Hotel~ George Washington Inn ~ Lexington Hotel](<a href=“Home | Stay Inns Collection”>Home | Stay Inns Collection)

It has nice rooms and the beds are great. If you join their loyalty program first (it’s free), you can get a special rate of about $84 a night. Link to join loyalty program:

[Lexington Experience Travel Reward Program ? Enjoy immediate rewards and upgrades](http://www.lexingtonhotels.com/lexington_experience.cfm)

This hotel isn’t on the website linked from W&M admit day website. It is nice, and I have stayed there twice. Has in-room fridge, microwave and coffee maker.

See you in April!
(and for full disclosure–no I do not work for them, I have stayed there twice for conferences and just discovered the loyalty program when making reservations for admit day!)

I still haven’t received anything and I’m an OOS :'(

For those who have received financial aid award emails letting you know you can view your fin aid award online, you do have to activate your username and password first (instructions about this are highlighted on the your website insert in the admit pac and via the welcome website (the URL for which is also on the admit pac…sorry but we can’t make this site public). It’s easy to activate and once you do, you can use your username and newly set password (which you change when you activate your account) to log into myWM (http://mywm.edu) and view your financial aid award by following the instructions in the email you received from the Financial Aid Office.

If you continue to have trouble, contact our IT Department (757-221-4357) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Monday - Friday.

Bandgeek, glad to hear you’re financial aid award was pleasing!

Also glad to hear so many of you are planning on attending Day for Admitted Students. We’re hard at work on plans for the day and think it’s fantastic!

Ieatseaform, keep in mind that only scholarship recipients have received decisions and that’s a very small portion of our applicant pool. The bulk of our decisions will be emailed in the coming weeks.

Thanks all -

My D has still not been able to get in either.

We tried halloimzak’s advice above but it still has not worked.

I guess we will call again tomorrow.

There’s a whole new thread on this issue which we just posted to but if you have used the activate your account site, entered your W&M user ID and password (your user ID is letters, not the nine-digit 93 number) exactly as printed (these are case sensitive) and something is still not working, please contact IT today.

I really hope I get accepted, I’m planning to go out of state and I’ve visited Williamsburg and feel in love with it <3 being positive is the best I can do at this moment.

April 1st, I’m ready ;)

It will be here before you know it ieatseafoam and we’re working hard to craft a fantastic class and to prepare to release decisions.

We went on line to view the schedule for the Monroe scholarship weekend and was pleased to see that there were so many activities planned. My daughter is interested in pursuing a biochemistry degree but would like to stay active with her music. She plays flute and would like to join an ensemble group and perhaps continue with lessons. Will there be an opportunity this weekend to meet anyone from the music department or anyone that she can speak with to discuss her options?
