Just got accepted to Camden, scared of getting robbed

I just got accepted to the A&S college at camden, planning to major philosophy on a pre-law track. I am curious as to a few things the website doesn't specify.

How many students live on campus?

How are the "social activities" on campus?

Is it a dangerous campus?

Is Seton Hall a better choice?

Any general info on the on-campus living?

Also any people with general facts about the school feel free to reply. I want to educate myself as much as I can before I declare

lol, uh just stay in school grounds and don't talk to strangers.

im gonna work my butt off to transfer to NB where my step-sis lives, as soon as i can. My whole family except for my mom lives in bergen and passaic counties, with my step sis living in NB, so camden sucks because im near nobody

Did you apply to Newark? It's at least a little safer, and minutes from the city.

I think everyone knows how bad of a town Camden is...isn't it the city with the highest crime rate in the country?

^^^it's safer than the suburbs :p

well camden is the most dangerous place in jersey and it has one of the highest crime rates in the US, just be careful

rutgers is a great school but the NB campus is the recognized one. in my opinion (and ive seen the camden, NB and newark campuses) id say either go to NB asap. newark is a nice campus too.

i think living in the camden campus may be a little unsafe. newark is safer to lvie in as long as you stay in the boundaries of the campus

seton hall is a nice school. maybe you should look into that more

i would go with seton hall its a pretty safe campus for the most part and the town is somewhat safe

i cant get onto NB, i only got accepted into camden...i figure ill make the best of it, and transfer to NB as soon as i can.

I was born in newark, and raised in kearny so im familiar with newark. i guess ill make the best of living on campus in camden. Does anyone have info on the dorms in camden??

I live in Camden county (not IN Camden) and I have some friends that go there/want to go there. The location really just kills it for a lot of people- the campus is nice, but the moment you step off campus you realize it's Camden.

I'm sure adequate security procedures are in place on campus- when I visited there for an arts festival I saw a lot of those blue call boxes. It's just that the surrounding area is not likely a place you'd want to hang out. My friend that commuted there was often approached by hobos (which wasn't a problem for him since he was a guy, he usually gave them money too) but personally that would scare me a bit.

I think most people that go to Rutgers Camden hang out in Philly. Personally I would not want to live on campus, but I would commute.

commuting is not an option, the closest person i know is 2 hours north of there so financially the next best thing is living on campus

Dont let the reports fool you, campus is very safe. there are 4-5 police depts as well as campus security on patrol 24/7. Yes there are the occasional 1-2 bums who ask you for money but hey its camden. Just be smart (dont wander into north camden looking for a bite to eat at midnight). Be careful and you'll be fine.
Im in my fourth semester and i have not heard of anyone being attacked or harassed. My walk to night class is harmless.

On Campus: 550
Commuter: 4800
Campus life almost nonexistent, philly is a must.
Rutgers over Seton Hall, remember your degree will not specify your campus, Rutgers is Rutgers.
Campus: Safe, The rest of the City: Dangerous

thanks for the info...do you live on campus??

No, Commuter but I have a lot of friends who live on campus and they love it surprisingly. Students are generally the most down to earth that you will find anywhere, probably because the majority of students balance their full-time coursework with full- or part-time jobs. If your looking to have a lot of fun, then don't come to RU-C. But if your looking for a solid education while meeting some pretty cool and diverse people then this is your school.

do any of you know some about the NB campus!!

I agree that Camden as a city is awful. I was near the Rutgers campus recently ( aquarium trip ) I noticed a rather strong police presence.

bump my post, hoping for more insight or advice

I just got into Camden it is the only one I got into so I am going how hard is it to transfer out of Camden to New Brunswick or Newark?

I would pick RU-Camden over Seton Hall in a second, plus its about 20 grand cheaper. I have a friend who is currently attending school on the Camden campus and is planning to transfer fall 08, he really likes it, I guess you just have to visit, good luck.

dreams- I think it's pretty easy to do a campus to campus transfer, just so long as you have a decent GPA.
