I just got another e-mail from Michigan that said:

Thank you for applying to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. We have
received your application and have begun to process it.

I was also given an ID number. Is there somewhere I can enter this online to check the status of my application? What's the next step - will I get an e-mial notifying me that there is a decision?

I swear those things change annually. A couple of years ago, Michigan had an automated phone service that would give the most recent information if you just dialed your student #. That no longer exists. If you have any questions or concerns, you should call the office of undergraduate admissions and ask them. But in all likelihood, the next thing you get from Michigan is an envelope! Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks for the info- so Mich doesn't put the decisions online? Should I be expecting the envelope 6-8 weeks from now or from the time when I sent in the app (15th I believe)

Hard to say. I don't know if they send acceptances via email. I think universities in general prefer a more personal approach (i.e., regular snail mail). As for when, I would say anytime between 3-7 weeks from now. Definitely before Christmas, perhaps even before Thanksgiving.
