Holy son of God.

You’re 10000% getting in.
Besides, if they decide to waitlist you then they’re idiots.

MIT, Stanford, etc is where you belong!!

^
um, i think i got deferred because first of all, even though i live in canada, im still a chinese citizen, second of all, i dunno

its prob just my citizenship

anyways, i got rejectef by UPenn, after everyone said i would get in :(

I know one who has nearly the same background with you, got deferred by Michigan!!! I wonder whether it has admitted better students than Harvard.

Well to be honest you have about a 3.85 and a 2150 which by no means makes you an auto admit. I still think you will get in and you seem like a really smart, good guy but your stats alone didn’t make it automatic. Hope you get in though!

i didnt read through your stats, but in general, let me say that with the stupidity of michigans admission stuff this year, nobody really knows what the acceptance rate will be. with the common app + SO MANY deferred from early, we just have to wait an see

*MIT, Stanford, etc is where you belong!! *
OP has an amazing profile, but there are many MUCH more qualified applicants who get rejected at these 2 schools.

this year, honestly, is like a hell for prospective students like us. most good schools (ivys, etc.) have a significant increase of number of applicants. take UPenn as an example, for ED, 18% increase from last year. Northwestern, 25%. why? nobody knows

Your Chinese citizenship has nothing to do with it. The fact that you are an international student studying in Canada puts you in the international pool competing with your peers in Canada. You would have a better chance had you applied EA.

Given your stats and achievements, you still have a fair chance of getting admitted. Good luck.

I am international from Brazil and was accepted with a 2130 SAT. I think you’ll be ‘well considered’ for RD (I applied RD btw).

anyone think that this is a yield protection??

it’s probably not yield protection. u of m is deferring a lot of people this year because they over admitted too many applicants last year and they don’t want to make the same mistake this year. also, you are applying as an international applicant which places you in an extremely competitive pool of people applying to a college that has great prestige.
if it helps, in my opinion you should be fine

Unlikely… I know an international student admitted with 2300 SAT from my area, and several with 43-45 IB scores.

U-M admissions are too busy to consider “yield protection”. Michigan has a 40+% yield rate, which is higher than most of its more selective private peers. Besides, internationals are such a small percentage (<5%) of the overall admissions, they hardly impact the overall yield rate.

damn, im feeling extremely insecure now. ugh, hopefully i’ll get accepted
