JUST got deffered from RD :/

^ Thanks, I think you’re right. This will mean so much to her and I sure don’t want to steal her thunder!

question jorabamama, was your d deferred previously? was she ED or RD? thanks and good luck

She is RD, applied back in October, but didn’t do EA because she did early at Northwestern.

oh, and no, she had not been previously deferred
Good luck to you!

thanks a lot

Accepted.

Jorabamama! I am in the same boat! I am not going to tell her but “nudge” her to check her email…

It seems that what Michigan sent out today are all defers. I got the same letter, too. But due to the chaos in the admission process, I will not attend it if I got offers from other schools even they admit me in April.

^Well no, there are multiple people that got accepted today, just read the thread.

OH, yes. I saw offers. One SAT 2310 with ACT 36 and the other one has ACT 35, plus GPA 3.96

All the people admitted today/yesterday are basically Ivy League material. I thought they weren’t accepting too many of these guys (even though they deserve to be accepted) since they might consider UMich as a safety and have less of a chance attending. Anyways, I hope my defferal turns into an acceptance soon and I wish the same for others!

Good luck to all.

i also got whatislove’s…so sad and frustrated…

I’m an in-state junior, and after seeing almost all seniors who applied from my school get deferred, it scares me. While I always believed I’d be a shoo-in at U of M, my confidence level has definitely been lowered. Among the deferrals? A kid with a 34 ACT, 3.6 UW GPA, sports/other ECs. He applied to Yale too. Then again, this girl who’s as dumb as rocks got in (to the art school although). But you never know. I think it’s because they over-admitted last year, so this year’s applicants have to pay the price. And apparently they’re admitting more and more OOS applicants due to their greater tuition costs. After all, especially in recent years, Michigan has become a household name and it’s prestige has certainly increased. Take it from someone whose relatives and friends have all attended there - things aren’t like they used to be.

*note that I’m an in-state HS junior

just a clarification: the people who have been deffered are also undergoing rolling admissions now, right? So, ideally we could be accepted next week?! Or do we now only hear back in mid-April?

Deferred applicants are also undergoing rolling admissions. However, this only means that you may hear before mid-April and at mid-April the latest.

@OMGMIT: Looking at your stats, it’s surprising that you got deferred, IMO.

But then again, UMich’s deferring some really good applicants this year.

thanks for the response OMGMIT.
hopefully we’ll hear much sooner than that…like NOW! haha :D

I think the reason some of the obviously over qualified candidates are getting deferred is because they think you have U of M as your safety school, and they are waiting to see if you get into an Ivy League and drop them. If U of M is your first choice, send them a quick letter and let them know.

My daughters stats btw are a 30 on her ACT, several APs, 4.4 GPA, NHS, Girls State, People to People Ambassador, 3 sport athlete. It seems that most of the people they are accepting are in the 27-31 range for ACT, and those that are higher are getting deferred. I’m sure you’ll get in if it’s your first choice!

Yeah, thanks for paying the price for my class haha

I don’t think the changed the IS to OOS ratio.

A lot of the amazing kids getting defered is probably because theyvdont want to over accept again, so they are playing safe. You’ll still all get in, but it’ll take longer.
