JUST got deffered from RD :/

it definitely is one of my top 2 choices…i really want to get in!
as long as i get in, i honestly dont mind the long wait. Although, it is frustrating to see your own friends enjoying their acceptances now…

anyone get deffered and then accepted after sending in their mid-year report?

Or rejected***

I am quite confident that I will get accepted now as my mid-year report conveys that I am academically stronger than before, and as I’ve stated on other threads; a friend of mine with drastically lower stats got accepted to UMich recently.

I feel like there is only one thing between me and my acceptance. Last year 6 people applied to UMich from my school and each and every one of them got accepted. However, only two of them decided to enroll. They paid the deposit and made housing arrangements. Afterwards, they got great scores from the national university exam and decided not to attend to UMich. My HS counselor gave this news to the admission officers, and according to my counselor, the admission officer left the room in panic, trying to call the school to say that two students changed their mind. This year, only the valedictorian of our school got accepted. Everyone else got deferred. Even a friend of mine with a 2080SAT, 800 MathI, 800 MathII got deferred at RD. The valedictorian will not be attending to UMich as she got her acceptance from UPenn Wharton School of Business.

Yeah, that would make sense seeing as last year they apparently over-admitted and this year they’re trying to compensate. It seems as though the ones being admitted are Ivy League-material too!

From my school, last year only one person applied - she got accepted and now is also attending. However, this year 6 people have applied from my school. From those 6, one applied EA and got accepted. From the 5 remaining, another got accepted like 2 days ago and 2 got deffered (including me). The other 2 left still haven’t heard back yet.

I hope you hear soon! The waiting is just agony! Do you think they will really make you wait till April? You might want to send them a letter just letting them know how much you are still interested. Maybe update your grades, tell them of some new accomplishment, or send an additional letter of reference. Good luck!

I had sent them my mid-year report on January 28th along with an additional recommendation. When do you think I will get a decision? -hopefully an acceptance :)-

^ I wish I could even make a guess for you because I know how hard the waiting is. They are doing “Campus Day” visits January through March, so hopefully they will tell you in time to go on one. They told us that we would not hear until April and we heard on Feb 4, so who knows! I’ll be keeping an eye out for you on here, let us know!

my counselor is away for 2 weeks…what perfect timing.

Haha, i’ve been seeing Campus Day groups around here. At least they realize it gets cold. But anyone that would bother to come for Campus Days is probably in driving distance so they should be used to it

@jorabamama
Sure, I will. It seems like I will hear sometime during this week. According to admissions, my file is under review.

As long as it is an acceptance, I don’t care when I hear it. :)

Luckiest Campus Days group yet… they visited on chicken broccoli day!

chicken broccoli day? i want to come, sounds fun! hahaha

jorbamama- your post a little earlier was pretty ridiculous. I haven’t seen anyone with below a 30 get in and your case might be the only one or two that I’ve seen that were 30-31. Most people that have gotten in have a 3.75+ UW and 32+ ACT. Both. I’ve seen many more “seemingly overqualified applicants” get in than been deferred, and in fact I think there was only one post on here that truly surprised me stats wise about a deferral. Almost everyone on here complaining about admissions this year has one very strong part of their application (usually a test score) and one notably weak part that they hoped would be overlooked but obviously wasn’t (GPA or EC’s). Admissions this year has been pretty straightforward, just more difficult.

Wow, well I certainly wasn’t trying to be ridiculous, I was trying to be helpful. That was based on another thread with over 2200 comments on it. Tons of kids who were deferred had higher numbers than the ones who were accepted. Many were confused by this and this was a suggested reason why. Perhaps if you have the free time you could read through that thread and see all the kids with lower numbers getting accepted while many with higher were deferred. It was not something I just made up. Anyway, I’m happy cause my daughter got in, just trying to be helpful to the poor kids who are still waiting.

well, there is a lot more to it than ACT scores

like URM or not, IS or not, (insert gender) with respect to (insert field) or not…

stuff like that

MLDWoody, what are you majoring in at Michigan?

Engineering, probably Mechanical

Ohhhh, good luck!
How’s the difficulty of your classes?
