just got into a college i know nothing about.. help

hey i got into dickinson college in pa. can you guys tell me all that you know about it? is it a good school? prestigous? what type of peopl go there ..smart?? nerdy? TELL MEEE. lol

I don't know anything about the school, but I know something about the campus and the city. I was there for CTY for three weeks 2 summers ago. The campus is very pretty, big stone buildings, just like you would imagine an east coast school to be. The food is better than a lot of campuses. The dorms are a little old, but thats pretty normal. The city is very small towny, very quaint. I could see it getting a little boring for 4 years though. I think as far as a school goes it may be right under temple (also in PA), but I am not sure I was just there with a program using the campus. I have pictures if you want to see them.

Uh -- look at its website, go to CollegeBoard.com. It's a very good school. You know nothing about it? Amazing.

Dickinson College is considered to be a good liberal arts college. Fairly liberal, nice kids, lots of study abroad programs. Depends upon where you are coming from in terms of school, standardized test scores, interests, GPA, ECs, and what you expect from and are seeking from college. More females, 56%, than males, 44%. Near several other colleges such as Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg College. Mostly small classes; no classes with 50 or more students according to USNews. Ranked at #44 LAC in USNews along with Connecticutt College and Centre College. You can breeze through or work as hard as you wish to push yourself.

oh alright.. hec thanks a lot its alright i went on the website and looked at the pictures your right the campus looks beautiful.

so dickinson is worse than bucknell/lafayette right?

It Is Not Worse Than Anything.it Is Different.learn To Appreciate What You Have!.

To typify Bucknell, think business school and preppy rich kids who like to drink. Lafayette is often identified as an engineering school, although many other majors are offered. All three are good schools with beautiful campuses which have different cultures. It is unfair to rank one above the other as it really depends upon your interests and upon your "feel" for each school when you visit.

i do appreciate what i have but prestige is important and i am curious if dickinson is more or less prestigous than lafayette/bucknell and other small liberal arts colleges.

So you applied to a school you admit you know nothing about (not even bothering to check CB, apparently) and then start comparing it to other schools in terms of prestige. Then you ask strangers for advice on which to choose?

WOW. Stunning. Let me guess. You haven't talked to your parents about whether they are willing to fund four years at a school you know nothing about.

Bet you haven't done much homework in HS, either.

Post #8 reminds me of Groucho Marx when he declared that he would never want to be a member of any club which would have him as a member.

In terms of Lafayette and Bucknell? I'd say comparable to Lafayette but slightly less prestigious than Bucknell.

Dickinson is an extremely up and coming school and more of a standard liberal arts college in terms of size than Lafayette or Bucknell. They are all excellent schools. Prestige is not a measurable quality. Some people who rank Dickinson higher, some the other two.

I do know the people from Dickinson I know have had very successful careers and been happy about their schooling. Look at the library. It's beautiful.

Congratulations on your acceptance. Use all your opportunities to learn, grow and mature. Don't sell yourself short for "prestige."

I know someone who went there. She loved, I mean really loved, her college experience there. Definitely visit it before making your decision.

Congrats!

Why would you apply to a school you know nothing about? Why would a parent congratulate someone for doing so?

UNBELIEVABLE

And you applied to Dickinson because...

They sent me a viewbook which had pancakes and icecream in it.

ah ok. i mean i do know things about it.. i just phrased that the wrong way. of course i looked dickinson up on college board. i know its acceptance rate and median sat scores & size and stuff..but i have never visited nor have i ever even met anyone that is applying there or goes there. this is making me uneasy because for all i know dickinson can be accepting people with bad gpa's and sat scores...and i dont want to go to a school like that.

so i am asking you guys to help me if you know someone that got in or applied tell me about the person. im just trying to get an idea of how hard it is to get into dickinson, and what type of people go there/get in. thats all.

I know someone who went there about 20 years ago and loved it. She sang with some of their singing groups (she was very very very good), went on to work at a major prestigious investment back, and has done very very very well.

My d seriously considered Dickinson and would have applied there if her ED school hadn't worked out. We visited and thought the campus was charming and lovely, and that there seemed to be excellent opportunities there in the fields of study that interested her (history, dance and biology). They have an exceptional study abroad program.

At the info session, the adcom stressed that this question was of particular importance: "From what you’ve learned about Dickinson College, why have you chosen to apply? Specifically, how do Dickinson’s character, programs and campus environment match your own character and aspirations?" I'm curious as to how you answered this question, knowing so little about the school?

Well, looking at Dickinson's info on collegeboard, you can see that their 25th/75th percentiles for the SAT are 1190/1370, and that 79 percent of accepted students were in the top quarter of their graduating class. So I don't see how they can be accepting many people with "bad" SATs/GPAs.

You sound pretty lukewarm about this school. If you're considering it at all, please visit.

Is this thread supposed to be a joke?

For the OP's sake, I hope so.
