Just got my Subject Test scores. Good Enough?

Hey guys! Well I didn't do as great as I thought I would do:

U.S. History - 740
Literature - 690
Biology - 590

Man, i was seriously hoping to break through the 700s range on Lit, but ohh well.

What do you guys think? I already have to take the SAT Reasoning Test in October because I plan on applying EA, but is it worth it retaking Bio and Lit? I'm probably not gonna retake USH, I'm satisfied with that one. Would Georgetown accept the retaken scores after the EA deadline? Any advice or suggestions?

Anyone? Pretty please?

For the early action deadline you don’t need ur sat 2 scores. I’m in the same predicament as you b/c i only scored 660 on mine…but i would say retake ur sat 1’s in october. then retake ur sat 2’s on the next test date.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, that’s pretty much the plan right now. Regular SAT in October for EA, my dad’s got me on a strict study plan over the summer cause my scores were pretty dismal back in March =/

CR: 640
Math: 530
Writing: 660
It’s a mess, I know…

So basically admissions would be able to look at the subject test scores after I take them? Like in November or December, and it wouldn’t affect their decision?

they absolutely would not look at december
according to what they say, they cannot guarantee they will look at november
if you provide documentation of the reasons you did not take the required tests before the deadline, they say they will revisit your application
however, based on your stats, i would recommend a different choice if you want to apply early

So pretty much no chance then? Talk about a confidence whopper =/ lol
But thanks for your opinion! Would GWU be more of a match with my scores?

When applying EA if you have sat2 scores available then they look at those, if not but they feel youre qualified otherwise then they may accept you without them. If you get deferred though and are then in the RD pool, taking those sat2’s again in november would definitely help you out. We’re pretty much on the same boat again here lol, I need to retake my sat’s in october (550 CR 660 Math 690 Writing) and sat2’s the next test date.

I took my two of my sat IIs for the first time in october of my senior year (I took biology in june because I had just finished ap bio). They were really dismal. I got lost driving to the testing center (it was really far away from my house) and ended up just bombing them! I submitted my application EA without sending in any of my scores and decided to retake them in december. Well sure enough I got in EA without any scores submitted and ironically did extremely well on my sat IIs, even though they counted for nothing. So…you can retake them in december and submit nothing and you don’t have to provide any explanation. Just write that you are planning on taking them in december.

ps britty your lit score is absolutely fine…lit is notoriously really hard to do well on. I have friends who got into dartmouth with a 650 on lit and another friend who got into cornell with a 590 so don’t worry about it. Maybe retake bio if you can fit in studying, but test scores are not the most important thing if everything else is strong

Thanks for the reply mab, I really appreciate it. It’s definitely a confidence booster! Some of the people on this site complain and freak out when they get a 780, so the paranoia has rubbed off I guess lol But thanks, I might end up retaking it anyway cause I didn’t study too much for it (literally the night before!). I’m thinking if I can get a 690 without preparation, 2nd time around should be cake :)

yeah definitely retake it! If you have a shot to score higher I would, but honestly if you can’t do better don’t stress. Georgetown is really good in that they take the whole person into consideration and they arn’t just dealing with test scores. This site is a little crazy sometimes. When I was on the boards for some of my safety schools, people would post the “chance me” things up and the scores would be either the same or better than mine and people would be like “no, no shot” or “its a reach”…and those were for my safety schools where I was told I was a shoo in. I would just take everything with a grain of salt. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the encouragement  My SAT I scores are definitely not the best of the best so I’m hoping a really really good essay and awesome recommendation letters will get me in…
