Just got new SATs! Please chance a below average CC user at the UCs!

Hi! I applied for:Riverside, UCSB, UCI, UCD, UCLA, and Berkeley.

I also applied for CSU Cal Poly SLO.

Please chance me as honest as you can be. Berkeley is my #1 school, but I am realistic. If I can make at least UCSB or UCD, I'll be fairly content.

Some notes:

In-state

Asian

I show a pretty upward trend. I had 3.5s from 9th-10th grade, but I got 4.0 and 4.1 my 11th grade.

I might get a C this semester in AP Psychology.

I will graduate with 7 Honors and 3 AP classes under my belt. Semi-rigorous for what my school has to offer.

Thanks a lot for your time!

Great job on the upward gpa trend. In at Riverside and CSU. Maybe some of the others. Cal and UCLA are reaches. Don’t know on the other schools. Best of luck!

Berkeley: reach
UCLA: reach
UCSD: slight reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: high match
UCR: safe match
Cal Poly: match

UCB–Reach
UCLA–Reach
UCSB/UCI/UCD–Match
UCR–Match
Cal State SLO–Match, but those SAT IIs make me think they will admit you for summer session, not the regular fall semester (meaning you will have to start the school in the summer before everybody else)

(I’m surprised you didn’t apply to UCSD and UCSC also). UCSC would be a good match for you. UCSD would be a Slight Reach.

A long time ago, someone told me that match was about 70% and reach could be anywhere from 5-25%.

Does that stand strong here as well?

If so, would a high match/slight reach mean that I should probably be able to make AT LEAST one school out of UCI/UCD/UCSB/UCSD? Obviously none of you guys are fortune tellers, but would you say I SHOULD be okay?

I just really wouldn’t want to go to UCR or Cal Poly because I’ve had my heart set upon a good mid-tier to upper tier UC school for a while.

Woops! I did apply for UCSD. I did not apply for UCSC though, I only applied for Riverside as a safety.

bump to the top!

bump to the top?

This is generally what the terms mean:

100% = guaranteed
90%+ = safety
80% = safe match
70% = match
60% = high match
50% = slight/low reach
40% = reach / low reach
30% = reach
20% = big reach
10% = nearly impossible

Alright, thanks a lot. You’ve been a lot of help Kyle.

Berekely and UCLA are absolutely out of the equation. A Math 2 score of 540 is the 8th percentile.

I figured it was worth a shot, but yes, I am realistic. Cal and LA are pretty far out of reach.

It was worth a shot to me!

Yes sir…

Berkeley: reach
UCLA: reach
UCSD: slight reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: high match
UCR: safety
Cal Poly: safety
